Good Indian food choices?

Recommended Posts

I'm so far from eating out at an Indian place that it's crazy, but the recent thread on sushi that gave me hope for the future :) made me think of another type of food I love, Indian!

Any tips or suggestions for good, sleeve-friendly Indian dishes when I get to that point sometime?

Tikki masala. It's basically yougurt spices and chicken. Also Tandorri chicken. You should be able to eat practiacally any of the yourgurt based dips also. Just be careful with eating the rice and naan, they are carb fillers and will fill you up far too fast. I love Indian food also and have had it since the sleeve ;)

For you ladies that are from India...I know I shouldn't be asking this...but can you tell me the secret/recipe for making naan?!? Everytime I make it, it turns out too puffy and chewy! I can't get it it flat enough! Also, I would LOVE a good masala and tandorri marinade recipe. I have tried to make my own Garam also, as all the garam pre mixes here taste horrible, but I'm just not getting it right :(

Dal is good. Anything with seafood is fantastic for me, like a Goan prawn curry. I have to watch chicken curries, a couple of times it's been made with breast and even though there's been plenty of sauce the chicken has been dry.

Thank you! I'm not sure I'm a good enough cook to make any of it, but I love saag paneer, chicken vindaloo, tikka masala, really almost anything!

Oh, love love love the exotic flavors and aromas from Indian food. I wish I were Indian for a moment. So good! We sometimes go to Indian buffet on Sunday for lunch and I eat a few bites of my wife's plate. The owner is really good about that because we have been customers for years. They are best Indian in WA, which is saying a lot. I really like chicken tikka, chicken Marsala and some of the veggie curries. Mmmmm, my mouth waters just writing about it.

Slightly off topic, but we also love thai food for the same reasons. Chicken satay is always a favorite and the perfect size for a meal. Lately I have grown to really like chicken over steamed spinach with a little peanut sauce. I used to be a big fan of pud thai noodle and wide egg noodle dishes and would not try other things on the menu pre sleeve. The inability to eat noodle dishes has really opened up the rest of the menu to me. Mmmmm.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
