Nothing wrong with saying you'd rather not eat this crap again (like me). Lots of fit, healthy people who have no problem maintaining their weight don't eat it.

Nothing wrong with saying you're going to have this stuff on occasion. Lots of fit, healthy people who have no problem maintaining their weight eat it occasionally.

Hey - is this a resolution????? :) :)

Peace out,

Deano

I'm sure some fit people do. I will never be one of them. I eat almost paleo now and I've never felt better. I'm convinced that overly processed and additive laden food make for a poor quality of life. I also think that combined with genetics, this stuff is at the heart of autism, certain cancers and a host of other diseases. It's bad enough that the meats, milk and produce is tainted. Thank goodness I have my own hens. A least my eggs are clean.

Sure, we are all going to die, but I want to be ambulatory like my German grandma that grew up on a pig farm, fried everything in lard and made everything from scratch. I want to live as long as she and my Italian grandfather who ate sparingly. Neither ever ate fast food or packaged food.

'Sides, most fast food sandwiches are from 500-1000 calories. I eat around 800 right now. It takes too much space away from other things. My tastes have changed considerably. I'd rather sink my teeth into a rare slice of tri-tip.Greek yogurt with pineapple is better than any slice of cheesecake to my tastes.

So I've turned into a bit of a health nut and food snob, but "I'm loving it!" ;-)

Mate I'm with you. I'm doing Crossfit and am on a Paleo-esque type diet. I think a lot of us would be without even knowing it, being Protein focused. But I did have some crackers with some gorgonzola last night!

Sounds like you're in a great head space to be who you want to be. I feel like I'm there too.

Others who are using a more moderate approach is obviously a great approach and head space for them to be who they want to be and achieve their goals.

I think the common ground is we're all being healthier and we're all going places with this!

What is the paleo diet?

A 'hunter gatherer' type diet -

I eat like this, but I wouldn't say I'm on a Paleo diet. I just like eating like this. Makes me feel good :)

I call mine a modified Paleo diet. I eat quite a lot of dairy a some grains although I hold to small amounts of whole grains and things like quinoa which is very basic. I also use only animal fats, coconut and olive oil.

I like the idea though, but I cannot give up cheese, yogurt and the occasional potato.. I think this might be a better place to start. The Wiki article is somewhat ... unfriendly to it.

Yeah, cheese is one of my mainstays. I don't know what you call my diet. It was basically the meat/cheese/eggs/nuts/seeds diet. But then I started making those veggie shakes everyday and suddenly I'm craving salads like a fiend. I'm regular though.

I did eat a cheeseburger for dinner tonight so maybe there is hope for me yet.

Check out the thread called "green shake anyone." I wrote it up in detail over there. I would type it again but my iPad is running out of juice.< /p>

Heavenly! It doesn't take much either.

Fine....I sent this today to a friend on MFP....I copied it from there.

Ok...so the green shakes... Well, I bought a vitamix, that thing will liquefy anything. The blendtec is just as good and some people like the ninja as well, and it's much less expensive....... Anyway, there is no limitations on the recipes. I do put a lot of stuff in mine. I start by filling it up with kale/mixed (collard) greens (you can use spinach). They say kale and spinach taste less bitter than stuff like mustard greens. Plus chopped up whatever veggies I may have. A little broccoli, asparagus, mini carrots, mini cucumber and 2-3 cups of cold Water. The more water the thinner it will be, less water....thicker. Adjust to taste. Blend that up. Then I add 2 cups mixed frozen fruit/berries/whatever. 1/2 cup fat free Greek yogurt. 2 scoops Protein Powder (I use chocolate and you can't taste it). I also add a few little things like a tablespoon of spirulina, 1/4 cup goji berries, a dash of cacao....this stuff is optional but super high in nutrition. Blend again and add a little bit of water if its too thick. That makes about 50-60 oz of shake. I put about 12 oz in my shaker bottle with 2 tablespoons of chia seeds and let that sit for 25 minutes then drink. It's good. I'm getting in a lot of nutrients most sleevers can't get on the typical low carb plan. The carbs are all low glycemic. I honestly made 4 or 5 batches before I figured out the exact recipe I liked. You make a batch, adjust it, make another. It gets better. I have never felt better....but I'm craving salads now all the time.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
