Leak test mexico surgery

Recommended Posts

So I've read a few things on here stating some doctors do 2 leak tests before you leave and even give you a DVD with proof of the results which raises 3 questions:

1.) once you are found to be leak free, are you good to go or is it possible to develop a leak further out?

2.) if the doc finds a leak does he wheel you back down the hall and throw a few more stitches in?

3.) is the test done with X-ray and contrast? Do you swallow/ drink something or is it injected down your throat?

I know leaks are very rare and I hope I don't sound paranoid, just covering the what -ifs, ya know?

Thanks in advance.

I'm currently in MX, had surgery yesterday and 2 leak tests earlier today (in addition to the one they did during surgery). It is my understanding that it is still possible to develop a leak further out, which is why it's important to follow the post-op diet and other instructions about not over-exerting yourself. I don't know what happens for sure if they do find a leak because I don't have a leak, but I would assume that they would take you back to surgery to fix it right away. And yes, for the x-ray you swallow a clear liquid that doesn't taste very good (but it's not as horrible as I'd imagined).

I was taken to another medical facility for my leak test. You can't drink ANYTHING until your leak test. You stand on a platform, drink nasty blue stuff, stay still, boom, done. No leak, drink some Gatorade yum! I don't know what happens if you have a leak.

I just read your post from yesterday! You are my unofficial poster child! I am strongly considering Dr. Ortiz. Thanks for the inspiration! I hope you are feeling well!

I had three leaks tests in Mexico:

one during the surgery

one drink a little blue Water and see if it comes out in your drain

one clear liquid swallow where you can see the liquid go through your system into your intestines very cool.

If you have a leak I am sure they then fix it.

I'm a band conversion and will have I believe one extra leak test. If there's a leak it's definitely back to surgery for a quick repair. From everything I've read, they are possible several weeks out, but most occur early on.

icon23 - so happy it's going well for you! Congrats!!

I had a leak 3 weeks after surgery. They placed a stent in and I will have it for a week or two. I will have to have it removed endoscopicly. (sp) I'm in alot of pain but it is getting better.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
