Surgery on Tuesday 3/19/13. I received a random phone call from my doctors office. I need an EKG and blood work done... Is there anything in my blood work that will make them cancel or post pone my surgery?

They just want to make sure you're healthy enough for surgery. I did EKG, blood work and chest xray today for surgery on the 18th. Blood work would show if your liver our kidneys weren't working right or if your anemic. Don't worry, its routine...best wishes Tuesday!

Surgery is tomorrow morning at 930 (pacific). I'm anxious and excited and ready for the pre op stuff to become post op. Thank you a million times to all of you who have shared your knowledge and support. I don't think I would have been able to get through this without such an amazing support system!

I was sleeved 3/13 also. Yes I have very bad nausea especially when I moved around It got better once I was able to take Fluid. Also I was having super painful contractions in my stomach... apparently stomach was not as thrilled with the operation as I was. I'm feeling sooo much better now though. I've drank over 40 ounces of fluid so far and it's going down nicely with just a little burping.

Have you called to request zofran? It dissolves under the tongue and helps so so so much when I am nauseous.

I just watched a video posted on another thread where Dr. Guillermo Alvarez explained what a bougie is, how they are sized, and actually showed video of using one during VSG surgery. Here's the skinny on size:

Bougies are measured in units called "French". 1 inch = 76.2 French. 1 French = 1/3 mm. So, the difference between a 32 and a 40 is 2.67 mm - or 0.14 inches - less than 1/6 of an inch! Also, they don't staple right up against the bougie, because they don't want to accidentally cut into it, which would cause a myriad of problems! So, it doesn't seem like bougie size should make all that much difference.

But what is it actually for… I'm still confused.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
