How much did you lose pre-op liquid diet?

Recommended Posts

Greetings all,

I noted that many of you said you lost a fair amount of weight pre-op on the required liquid diet.< /p>

I would like to hear from some of you what that experience was like. IE: what you had to eat, how much weight you lost just doing that, how you felt, etc.

My BMI is probably too low for the surgery, I'm at 33.5, and I don't think my insurance will cover it.

Although I've read about 99% success stories, the 1% who regret having the surgery have prompted me to at least try one more time to lose the weight without surgery.

I thought maybe if I tried your pre-op diet, I might get a kick-start to motivate me.

So I'd like to hear about your experiences pre-op.

Right now, I'm trying to do what some of you talk about doing, like "preloading" Protein so I will fill up as much as possilble with what my body needs to maintain muscle mass, and hopefully I will be less tempted by garbage foods later.

It seems easier to say to myself "I can have that, AFTER I have the important stuff" than to say "I can't have that."

I'm also trying to consume as much warm liquid as possible, like Decaf, broth, tea and Water, in an effort to keep myself feeling fuller and less hungry all the time so I will eat less.

Thank you in advance to all who share their thoughts and experiences with me.

And, happy new year to all of you :-)

Lorelei

I didn't have a liquid diet except for the day before surgery. Instead, I had to lose 10 percent of my body weight in order to get a surgery date. My bmi was 48. He said if it had been lower I'd have had to lose 5 percent. I had a plan from my dietician to lose the weight -- low carb, high Protein, low fat. It took me about 2 months to lose 36 lbs. Totally worth it.

Also...

What is the highest Protein, least calorie thing you can consume?

I've heard some of you mention powders that contain 30mg of protein per tablespoon, but did not learn the name of these products.

Is there something I can get at GNC which will be high in protein, low in calories, (not have any stimulant properties) which I can consume to be sure I am getting enough nutrients if I'm only having broth and things like that?

Thanks agian,

Lorelei

Hi Aaron,

Thank you for responding.

I'm wondering, if you were able to take off 36 lbs in just 2 months, why didn't you continue on that journey instead of going for the surgery?

It seems you were having great success without it just with your diet and exercise, and you had the will to do it.

Thank you again,

Lorelei

I think most people are here bc they are tired of yo yo dieting. We can all lose the weight but keeping it off is another story. At least for me and lots of others I have met here its the same thing. We diet, lose weight and gaining it back plus more.

Exactly. I probably could have lost another 30 lbs but I guarantee I'd have gained it back over the holidays! Plus I was killing myself exercising and at one point was on Protein shakes only for two weeks trying to lose it as quickly as possible because I had to have surgery by the end of October because of my work schedule.

I don't do Protein shakes much anymore because I get most of my protein from food, but I keep Body Fortress Protein powder (from Walmart) on hand. It's a good powder per my dietician and it's reasonably priced. Other than shakes, I think the best low cal high protein option is plain old chicken breast. :-)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
