Recent border problems?

Recommended Posts

So my mom said she's been hearing a lot about border issues. Not sure what she's talking about. I called and she was too drunk to explain. (Don't ask)

Any idea what she's talkin about?

No it must be because she is drinking, stop worrying. You will never make it to your surgery date that way. There is nothing more you can do to prepare but follow your pre-op diet.

There are always recent border crossing issues, and yes, despite whatever you hear, there is always an amount of risk in crossing into another country. Mexico has very different, very real issues that in US courts would be listened to and addressed quickly, while in Mexico your status as an American means very little.Things that get a Mexican tourist perhaps an overnight stay in jail, or even just a ticket, can put you behind bars indefinately.

Your Medical Tourism should come with an agent to meet you across the border. Be extremely aware of any paperwork you need, not just upon entry but exiting.

I am not up on the situation but there was an instance that the medicine that was filled for a patient was filled in the Nurses name and address, only one of three bottles, but it was a narcotic and it happened to be checked when declared...it was a mess. i don't know how it was resolved but there was issues to jail time, and such...family was able to bribe the girl's way back to the clinic she had the procedure performed, but it could have been worse.

Not trying to worry you but it simply isn't fair to be told you are going to be a-ok, okey dokey - understand your risks, read up on the subject - call the mexican consolate and see what publications they have regarding Medical Tourism.< /p>

People are always trying to talk you out of going to Mexico for surgery. We got all kinds of negative talk when we decided to go to TJ for my daughters surgery. My Son tried to stop us! They don't understand and they believe Mexico is a bad place. It's just heresay and rumors with things blown out of porportion. There are bad areas anywhere in Mexico just like in the US. Use caution like you would in any city; like stay out of back alley ways. Honestly I was worried about going to the movies last night. Worried some idiot would pull out an assault rifle and start shooting the audience.

Some border towns are quite dangerous... TJ? not so much.. Plus, we're getting escorted over the border, staying at the Marriott and being escorted to and from the hospital and then back over the border to the airport... Sounds safer than wandering around NYC alone!

Tijuana is in Mexico's state of Baja Califorina . It is the only "border state" that does not have a "defer non essential travel" warning from the US state department. The balance of Mexico's border states DO have the warning.

I think to some all of Mexico is dangerous. I've traveled a lot to various border states for work where my employer has factories. I've heard crazy stories and know some places are better than others. But the bottom line is this...if you are in Mexioc on the up-and-up, watch where you are at all times, you won't have any reason to run into the authorities or unsavory folks.

Keep checking the US State Department for updates.

I was there dec 3. About an hour total getting through both ways. Never felt unsafe as we had a driver. I too was thinking jonney dep movies drug cartel etc lol.... No problems. You worry about your emotions/ surgery and let the staff (drivers/ motel and hospital staff worry about the rest. Enjoy the nice weather;)

I just went through the border a few days ago! It didn't even take 30 minutes, and you will be going through a special medical lane! Just be sure to have your passport and medicine available for them!!

Not to mention it would be bad for business if the patients came back reporting horror stories... Of course I believe they do want us safe out of human decency but they are running a business as well.

I think we just need to use common sense with a side of extra caution.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
