8 weeks out and feeling doubt...

... And a little regret. I was sleeved on 10/22... I am down 38lbs... I do 30-45 min on the treadmill daily... I saw my doctor on Tuesday and he chastised me for losing too slowly... He had me on fish and eggs until Tuesday, but I jumped ahead to chicken because I was sick of fish and eggs... I have been eating high Protein, very little carbs averaging about 625 calories per day... My weight loss *has* slowed although my clothes fit better..

Now I am worried that I won't continue to lose and all this pain, frustration and throwing up will have been for an " only" loss of 40ish lbs... If this is it for weight loss, then I regret the surgery... It would be worth losing up to goal - 100lbs but not for 38-40lbs (depending on the scale).

I could just be down because I tried to eat my dinner very slowly and carefully and still threw up. I miss food.< /p>

Sorry your Dr. chastised you, that wasn't cool at all and very unprofessional. You've lost 38 lbs. in 2 months? I think that is pretty good, it's an average of almost 4 lbs. a week, which is more than you would've been able to do on your own pre-sleeve. I wouldn't worry about it, it'll start up again, and remember when you're not losing weight, your body is losing inches to catch up.

Hi, Strangefruit. My surgery is Thursday (getting scared :o) but I think your surgeon is nutty. That is almost 5 pounds a week. If your profile is right, it is almost the same as mine and with luck on my side, I can't expect better than that. Hang in there and just keep losing at your pace. Don't let him get you discouraged. I know what that can do. Good luck.

My surgery was Sept 2/12 and I am down 27 pounds and Dr said it was fine as long as you are losing. I seem to hold a particular weight for a few wks and then lose a couple. At least that is how the last 10lbs have been

I think you are doing great. I lost 21 the first month and then 8 lbs the next month. I stalled the end of the second week after surgery. So, I think you are right on track. You're dr doesn't know anything if he is going to chastise you. My surgery was 12/7/2011, last year, and I have lost over 100 lbs with many stalls. SO don't let anyone get you down. Just keep doing what you are doing.

Some doctors are really stupid. You are doing great! Sounds like you are right on track and in many ways ahead of a lot of us! Great Job! You are going to keep losing- especially since you are trying so hard but don't get discouraged if you hit plateaus here and there- we all do. Keep up the great job- that's what your doctor should have said! Good grief- I think I would either have cried when the doctor said that or I would have told him to stick it. I am sorry that the one person you feel you should trust through this journey has let you down. Keep coming back here!!!! We'll support you!!!!!

SERIOUSLY?? Omg! What a jerk. You are losing weight at a perfect pace. I am continually stunned at how awful and unprofessional doctors are these days. What on earth is going on that they treat patients w such disrespect? I am sorry that happened to you. Hugs!

I agree that you are moving along at a good pace. I am considered a "lightweight" but I have tried very hard to lose as much weight possible. I take all my Vitamins, eat 60 grams of Protein daily, and most days I get in all 64 oz. of fluids. I have not cheated on my diet plan once, and I am six weeks out. I have only lost 15 pounds! If I get where you're at in two weeks, I'll be celebrating:) Keep it up, and don't second guess yourself. It took time for us to all get where we were, so it's going to take time to get where we want to be. Best wishes to you friend!

Doctors can so lack compassion. My question though is why are you throwing up so much? How much food are you trying to consume at once? What foods may be causing this(chicken, tough meats) Throwing up is not good, this is a concern.

Your Dr sounds like a knob!!

Keep doing what you're doing - you'll lose plenty more.

Fiddle sticks! The expectation with the sleeve is that you lose an average of 8lbs a month knowing that some months you will lose more and others less. so definitely try not to let what your surgeon said get you down! You're doing a fantastic job!

You guys are so helpful...thank you... My doc has the bedside manner of Dr. Gregory House... I dont like him at all, but he is the guy my insurance covers... I weigh every Monday and saw a loss today and feel better... This is HARD... Anyone who thinks this is an easy solution has no idea of how hard the behavior modification is... I throw up if I eat one bite too much...and right now, dont always recognize the full cue.

38 pounds in two months is incredible! Who cares if the doctor says it's too slow, it's a loss. You by passed 3 major weight gaining holidays (Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas) and still managed to LOSE weight! Don't ever let anyone tell you it's too slow, not even yourself. You are doing amazing and soon you will be at your goal :) Congrats on the 38 pounds love!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
