3 days post opp and emotional!

Recommended Posts

I'm 3 days post opp and I probably made a huge mistake getting on the scale today. I haven't lost 1 pound!!! My biggest fear before doing this was that I would be the exception and that I wouldn't loss weight..... That thought immediately kicked in and now I'm a ball of tears.

Did anyone notice weight loss so soon after surgery?

11 days out, I feel better, have a good loss now and slept better last night. First days, I hurt, was not comfortable moving or sleeping, was on pain medications, hadn't relieved myself but intake of Water was getting easier and building inside me. Once you pee more and then some you'll rid yourself of whats building up in you now, later and past stuff too a bit. After you can walk more it helps too. I am 11 days and more comfortable, do my duty nicely on time allot, drink allot, allot, allot of water, broth and tea, I can sleep and also I am off that g*d awful pain medicine which helps but the more you take the little differences add up if you can see the point, I am ready for light exercise and a few days until soft foods. Now is not the time to worry of this, give it a few days.Lots of luck.

To be honest I didn't really get on the scale until about 6 weeks after surgery. Many people gain weight just after surgery so not to worry. I think the speed and amount of weight loss is highly dependent on the individual so it is really not worth comparing. Follow the plan and the weight will come off, I promise.

Good luck and stay focused! :)

Let me start off by I have not had the surgery yet and I'm not an expert. Having said that your body just went through surgery and you are in the process of recovering give your body some time. This is more than just a physical change but also a mental one.

Oh... When I have surgery can you remind me of this because ill be saying the same thing. :)

Your body has been then through a lot. Your new tummy is swollen and your harmones are going into overdrive right now. I too was the same way. This is expected. Don't worry about the weight loss so soon after your surgery. It will come off. Remember, there will also be stalls. Hang in there! Good luck hun. We are here for you.

I haven't been sleeved yet, But its a thought that I have had as well. I'm banded now and have lost very little. I'm afraid of losing too much or not enough. From what I've read, give it time. It's still too early. 3 days is not enough time for your body to adjust. Cheer up and don't let it get you down. It'll come.

I was sleeved 12/12/12. I had lost about 15 lbs pre-op and was super proud of myself. Then I got on the scale the day after my sleeve. I was up 8 lbs! It really made me sad and start to question why I had done this to myself. I slowly lost the weight (I think it's Water weight from all of the IVs), then yesterday, at 9 days out. I got on the scale and was down 25 from my start weight :) .

Just hang in there!

You were in the hospital pumped with fluids via IV, now your home getting as much in. Remember fluids will leave your body as you get more in. Give it time! You will do amazingly!! So next week when I post the same comment you did, I will contact you for advice, I go in on wed. Good luck

Weight gain right after surgery is to be expected. They told me in the hospital I would be up apprx. Ten pounds due to all of the I've fluids and advised me to wait a week or two after I got home to weigh myself. When I did weigh myself after two weeks I was down 17 pounds.

Same here. Lost 15 pre-op and gained 6 after surgery. My stomach looked like a mountain range from all the swolling and the Water and gases from surgery. My feet legs and ankles were swollen also. After 6 days I lost the 6 I gained and at 3 weeks out I am down 31 and am in a stall. That is how it worked for me.

very good to know. I'm kind of cheered up now.

Ortega07, next week I will definitely be here for you. We all need it.

At times it's hard to speak to friends and family about what you are feeling because as non food addicts, or just naturally thin, it's hard to relate.

I had the exact same experience! It sucked! All I was doing was sitting around trying to feel the weight fall off! It is happening now but that day 3 weight was a mistake. I should have listened to all the people who said not to weigh the first week. But, now all is well. It gets better - I'm 6 days out now and already turning into a new person.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
