Will you cheat for Christmas?

Recommended Posts

Today I am 2 weeks post op band to sleeve revision. I am down 27 pounds and feel great!

Doctors orders are 3 week of liquids before thin purees. Christmas is next Tuesday; 2 days before my 3 weeks.

I think for Christmas dinner I will try thin purée, perhaps some mashed potatoes and gravy. Do you think that's a bad idea and that I should wait the 2 days?

See, we are American Italian and rest assured there will be a feast for the day. I'm wondering if I can do harm by starting the purees early. Any comments or experiences are welcomed. And of course; Merry Christmas to you and yours.

I am in no way promoting anything, now that I got my little disclaimer out of the way. I advanced stages a few days early at all my stages, and I was fine. Listen to your body an use common sense.

Good luck & Merry Christmas!!!

I agree, everyone progresses differently but I too progressed quicker than most. Your body will tell you! I am amost 11 month out so I can eat pretty much anything. I have been so so, I have had a cookie, a piece of candy here and there but NOTHING like I used to. I dont eat the whole box of chocolates, just one. Good luck to you!

On the contrary I did not progess fast through my stages and also did not and have not had any eating issues. If you feel okay try a small amount of potatoes and gravy taking only a 1/4 teaspoon bite at a time. If you feel okay continue, if not stop. You wouldn't want to ruin your Christmas by getting sick.

Dang, your surgeon is strict! I was released from the hospital on full liquids, went to mushies next week, and by third week was eating crackers with tuna salad and pimento cheese. I have had no issues.

So why don't you call him and ask? If he made these rules he did so for a reason right? And you wanted him because he's top notch...so why break them?

Progressing too quickly can lead to vomiting which can cause leaks. I'd advise you follow the rules you paid good money for, or call and ask if he feels comfortable with you breaking them.

I'm sticking to my 12 week pre-preop diet. No cheating for me! I have plenty of time in the future to sample the culinary delights of the holidays.

My surgeon is strick 2 week pre op and 2 week post op liquids. Then 2 week purée and then 2 soft before finally reaching regular food. I was so surprised when on my extended stay in the hospital they brought me watered down mash potatoes. They were a little more than Soup consistency but were no doubt mashed potatoes.

I basically believe in following the rules and I have so far my surgeon is also strict and If anything goes wrong I dont want to be able to blame myself. But that being said how does your stomach know if its day 12 or 14?

Lol your doctor knows how far a natural healing process is at day ten, twelve and fifteen :). Let me assure you, being conservative is not a bad thing. Leaks are HELL! No one wants to know first hand what that feels like, especially if it's self induced!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
