Carb grams?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

So I have a question? How many grams of carbs should we be doing? I am working out 5 days per week and thought I was being really good with diet. Unfortunatly no weight loss. SUCKS! I am going to try keeping my Protein at around 80-90 grams and making sure I get my Water in, at least 9 glasses per day. I am going to lower my carbs--I think my body just can't deal with alot of them. I have been reading up and found a book that says around 20. I have seen on here people saying they are keeping around 80 grams. I would love to hear some different ideas. Thanks.

I have to keep mine below 20. And try to eat at least one meal a day with 0 carbs. Good luck!

I eat as many as 70-80 on some days, but my calorie total is 1500 and my Protein total is around 150. You can adjust yours accordingly. But when lowering carbs, please differentiate between good carbs and bad. You can eat all the low glycemic carbs you want. They are typically very filling and low in calories so you are not going to overeat on them. High glycemic carbs are the exact opposite. They are high in calories, low in nutrients, they increase food cravings and help promote a fat storing environment by raising insulin levels. I would worry more about those, and less about the total number of carbs. You can google any food to see what the glycemic index is.

I was having a similiar situation with slow/no weight loss. I started following more of a South Beach diet (very low carb) and the situation has corrected itself. Lots of great resources for low carb and/or South Beach diet. Good Luck!

Butter, I am going to have to respectfully disagree with you. :-). For some people like me, even too many low glycemic foods can stop me from losing. So I cannot eat all that I want of them even though they are healthy foods. Am i normal? No. Most people can eat unlimited low glycemic carbs. . I'm just one of the unlucky ones. My NUT is hoping once my body is done losing and stabilizes that I won't have such an issue with them. I'm hoping she's right.

How dare you? Just kidding. Yep, there is no "one size fits all" strategy that works for everyone. Blood insulin levels play a huge role in weight loss, regardless of calorie intake, and those carbs directly affect blood insulin.

So I take it you would not consider going vegan? I've just been scratching the surface on vegan diets, trying to figure out where they get their Protein from. But there are many ultra endurance athletes who eat vegan so there must be something to it. Maybe at some point I'll try it.

I DARED!! Only 'cause I know you though. (Don't anyone start a war here, please. BTB and I are just teasing each other.)

I'd have no problems going vegan in my head because I really don't like meats, but I think my body chemistry would protest. I eat no red meats, no processed meats, barley eat chicken. I eat fish & dairy. I think I like my dairy too much to give it up. I've always eaten this way though, I'm just making healthier choices: ie steamed shrimp vs fried.

Don't vegans gets their Protein from tofu, tempeh, Beans...? which is another issues because females shouldn't really eat lots of soy products. I'm not sure if that's the same with males. I'd be really fascinated to follow your diet should you decide to change to vegan.

It's been brewing in my mind for a while but I've got a lot more research to do. I want to get me a vitamix blender and start making some green shakes, but my wife won't allocate any kitchen counter space to me....she has it all.

I keep seeing what I think is a Vitamix at costco. I shy away from food displays becuase of samples (always have, not a sleeve issue) so I haven't gotten close enough to look. I am going there today for my cooked shrimp, maybe I'll stop and look at them. Vitamix's do look intriguing and i know that many people love them.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
