What Foods Did You Have To Give Up-Can't Eat Any Longer?

Recommended Posts

I've only recently delved into the world of popcorn because of all i've heard about it....I have NOT had a problem with it. But then....I've had a care free experience. It may disagree with some. I only have one bag of 100 calorie pop. Just enough to satisfy that little urge.

I met with my nutritionist today and she said no corn or popcorn after surgery.....ever.

Anyone have the same restriction, or find very negative consequences when you do eat it? I sure will miss a good ear of corn on the cob in the summer!

I was cleard for popcorn at 10 weeks out!!!

I eat corn and popcorn all the time, with no bad side effects whatsoever. I am also curious as to why your doctor said no to this?

Anything greasy makes me queezy. Also Tomato based sauces don't settle well. But I am not really giving anything up I just put it on my list to try again later.

3 sausage balls at a little holiday party and I was in the bathroom for almost an hour. But not from throwing up. I really haven't vomited nor had the slimes. When I get sick it is with severe abdominal cramping, gas, and sometimes I also actually have a poo.

I haven't really given up a lot. Here is the list:

Fast food and super high calorie or and/or nutritionally devoid food like white rice, white bread, flour tortillas, chips, french fries (except when I do oven fries), doughnuts, regular ice cream/malts/shakes, more than 1 bite of pastry/pies/cakes, or deep fried food.

I usually skip hamburger because it doesn't sit well, but I can eat a little bit. Everything else goes down fine.

I do not use any other oil except lard, butter, coconut or olive. Oils like corn, vegetable and especially Canola are BAD NEWS!

I don't eat milk chocolate, but do eat at least 70% dark chocolate. It's good for you.

I still drink diet soda, coffee and eat popcorn frequently.

I should add the the foods I don't eat are because I won't, not can't. I can eat anything. I just don't waste my calorie allotment on crud. I rather have a steak than a doughnut anyway.

Be extremely careful with microwave popcorn. The oil they use is toxic. It's easy to pop it yourself in a tiny bit of olive oil on the stove top. Eh, use a lid :-)

I'd also like ot know the deal with corn & popcorn. I'm just recently sleeved but I hope that some day I can go see a film and order a small popcorn without getting sick.

Movie popcorn is also bad news. They ruin a perfectly healthy snack with the amount and type of oil they use. I pop it at home and take it in. Just be discreet. It will save you $10 as well.

I'm with msemma,

I tried some whole grain rice (to get fibre for obvious reasons) de-husked and steamed instead of boiled to make it easier to digest. It was like swallowing lead, I didn't throw up but one bite felt like I was tied to concrete goulashes sinking in the Newark River. One bite well very well chewed, forget about it. I love rice, but it's going to be a while before I try it again.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
