What Foods Did You Have To Give Up-Can't Eat Any Longer?

Recommended Posts

I can eat anything but there are some things I need to be careful of-broccoli stems are really fibrous and make me sick but the floret parts are fine. chicken needs extra moisture--gravy, cranberry sauce, ketchup. Other than those two, no problems.

chicken, especially white meat, really bothers me and makes me slime. I've also lost the taste for eggs, which I used to love. I'm only four months post-op so I'm optimistic that it will get better.

I'm week 10 post op and I'm still trying new things. I have had very bad experiences with anything that has much fat in it. I took a bite of the fried crust from fish and chips and two fries and felt bad for hours. I ate a few bites of chocolate cheesecake and felt really sick. For some reason pineapple doesn't sit well' date=' nor do boiled turnips. I don't have any trouble with bread, but I don't eat it because I just don't crave it much anymore and would rather eat "real" food. Right now my favorite things to eat are chicken, yogurt and cheese.

My surgeon said he wanted me off of Protein shakes by Jan. 1 and only eating food. That is freaking me out just a little.[/quote']

I have trouble with fatty foods also like ham and beef brisket. My solution is just to stay away from them. I have not tried anything fried like fries, deep fried fiish and so on. after my experiences with higher fat foods, i am afraid to see what deep fried food will do to me. The other food I struggle with is eating steak. It tastes like heavy metal to me and gives me a very crampy and very uncomfortable stomach, for hours. I am not sure why,but maybe it will get better later. I keep trying to eating beef, but same results. chicken, fish and pork are generally ok.

I cant eat hot dogs not even fat free ones. Stuff that use to taste good dont taste as good any more. No sugar for me either.

Great question! I tried an artichoke a few nites ago and it didn't agree with me. It's a fav of mine so I will try again.

I'm 4 months post-op and chicken and eggs are still very unappealing to me. I pretty much only eat fish & cheese these days.

I haven't had to give up anything, and that makes me happy. Everything in moderation.

I met with my nutritionist today and she said no corn or popcorn after surgery.....ever.

Anyone have the same restriction, or find very negative consequences when you do eat it? I sure will miss a good ear of corn on the cob in the summer!

RICE!.. :( i'm filipino and our culture eats rice with everything... its a staple at home, but not for me... :( i tried a a bite or 2 and my sleeve did not like it at all, it felt like someone punched me in the stomach and left their fist inside me! Sounds crazy but thats how it felt like. :(

I'd also like ot know the deal with corn & popcorn. I'm just recently sleeved but I hope that some day I can go see a film and order a small popcorn without getting sick.

I have a problem with popcorn because of having had diverticulitus several times and not wanting a reoccurance. But corn? Interesting....

Hamilton does not like sugar in "large" quantities. I can't eat a whole cookie without feeling a bit sick and other sugary foods. I just feel gross and icky and my sleeve aches a bit.

Soda is another. It makes me feel extremely bloated right under where my bra sits and I just get super uncomfy for an hour or so. This wasn't always the case, it just happened rather recently.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
