Yeah I'm sure that will be something I need to do. All I own is flip flops. Going to buy sneakers tomorrow. Any brand better than others?

Flip flops are horrible for PF because you are constantly gripping with your toes (unconsciously) to keep them on your feet. My recommendations are: boot at night, stretch (but no bouncing if you're hanging your heel over the edge of a stair), and walking (in a good walking shoe). Go to a running store & they will watch your gait as you walk & recommend the best walking (or running) shoe for you (based on pronation).

Yes I'm sure the flip flops aren't doing me any favors, but whats this FL girl to do without her flops?!? Im sure the Crocs I wore working un the hospital weren't great for it either. Great idea though thank you! New sleeve, new shoes, I can deal with that! :)

I've had it many times. Besides stretching your calves, freeze a Water bottle and roll your foot on it at the end of the day to reduce inflammation. Also, if you remember the original die hard movie...."make fists with your toes" is a great exercise to strengthen the tendons in your foot.

Everyone has known for years that bad shoes can cause PF, but a lot of great information is coming out lately that demonstrates that shoes with a lot of support (especially arch support) make the problem worse because they don't allow the muscles and tendons in the feet to remain strong and do their job. The answer to this is barefoot walking in grass. Very little impact because of the grass but allows your feet muscles and tendons to work and get stronger. I've been running barefoot and in minimalist shoes like the Vibram five fingers and I can see and feel a huge difference in my feet already.

Google taping for plantar facitis. It works. I had it so bad I could hardly walk. My dr told me to tape with athletic tape. It worked wonders and I never had another problem.

I had this several years ago. My podiatrist told me to wear Birkinstocks. That is all I have worn for years and it did the trick for me.

yeah, flip flops are the worse. Especially the thin ones that use to own 50 pairs. I was raised in the Virgin Islands so I ran with bare feet or flip flops my entire life and it kills me to wear sneakers in the summer (in Maryland now). They do make (very expensive) flip flops that I get at the running store that actually have arch support for those days that you just cant wear sneakers. Running store is best. But once you find the sneaker that works for you then you can price that sneaker around the next time you need a replacement (sports authority, etc.). Also, ask at the running store. If i buy sneakers I have 2 weeks to decide if they work for me. If not they will exchange. When you're paying $100 for shoes that's a nice touch.

I went to the podiatrist today. He diagnosed me with Plantar Fasiitis. He wrapped my feel in funky tape. It feels like a cast around my ankles and bottom of feet. Weird, but I have to leave it on for 3 days and return to his office Friday. He told me that it doesn't matter what type if shouts you wear that it's hereditary. So, now I need to find some good shoes to help relieve the problem when I walk and that Will allow me to exercise without foot pain. Glad I'm on the road to recovery!

Wow, I've never heard of PF being hereditary. How can muscle inflammation caused by an overuse injury be hereditary. I'm sorry, but I call BS. I'm not a doctor, but that is just crazy talk.

The way he explained it made sense but I don't remember word for word the explanation. Something like the ligament stretches and doesn't allow your foot to function or move properly. My mom has PF too. Anyway, all I care about is getting them back to normal so I can have enough relief to exercise.

I also have PF, My foot doctor Dr. has done the same treatment that you received, he also sent me to a New Balance shoe store gave me a number on the support, I told the salesmen and a fitted me for that particular number. I also have insert that I bought at the doctors office and my feet are so much better at this time. I have had the injections 4 times in a time frame of 4 years.

Went back to podiatrist today for a follow up. The tape worked in one foot while it was on but not the other. So, he gave me orthotics for my shoes and prescribed a steroid pack and Celebrex. I have to stay off my feet as much as possible for 6-8 wks. Bummer so much for cardio. :(

If you have a costco by you go to the pharmacy section and get the shoe inserts! I have had my feet taped and shots put in each foot for a 3 month period. I ended up going back and buying a second set of inserts!

My podiatrist told me to have good athletic shoes and good inserts. It is almost gone now! Mine was so bad I walked on my tippy toes.

My dr. Offered to make custom inserts however her wanted $425... outta my budget.

Plantar fasciitis (PF) is a painful inflammatory process of the plantar fascia, the connective tissue on the sole (bottom surface) of the foot. It is often caused by overuse of the plantar fascia or arch tendon of the foot.

I had this problem 10 years ago. It's an inflammatory process ask your physician if you can take or you have started on Something like Motrin. For pain and inflammation. This was soo painful. I was given Motrin and it eventually went away, never came back since.

Your podiatrist will help you too.

I bought the inserts from his office they were only $35 and they feel great just from the 1 day I've wore them. He put me on a steroid pack to decrease the inflammation and Celebrex to keep it down. Now that I'm sleeved I can't take NSAIDs however Celebrex is one that is approved for sleeve patients.

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
