Ok I am angry! Lol I'm on liquid diet for 12 days and I have only lost 13#. I feel like I'm pretty much starving myself so why am I not loosing more weight? I am not cheating AT ALL! I am drinking 5 shakes a day and do that every 3 hrs with snacks of s/f jello, 2 c broth (1 c at a time) and tons of water. What gives? Anyone else slow to loose?

I was on clear liquids for 7 days and only lost 6. It's way too early to start getting frustrated with your numbers :-) Be patient! Your body is going to do what it wants to- just stick with it.

It is 12:09am... Which means... SURGERY TOMORROW! It has been one hell of a week. Started the liver reduction diet, got my period -.- then my best friend and biggest cheerleader passed away <\3 and now, CHANGE. Good things are on the horizon. Thank God. As terrible as this week has been, I know that there is much joy to come (even if it doesn't show up right away). Friends, let's move forward together! I could sure use people who "get it."

I wish you all the best! You have great things in store for you... As they say it is always darkest before the dawn, well tomorrow is your new dawn. You are in my prayers! God bless & keep us posted

Oh, my goodness, Bekkamyhousekey. I'm extremely excited for you that your surgery is tomorrow, but I'm so sorry to hear about your best friend. I can't imagine experiencing both of these life events at the same time. You're right, joy is right around the corner, and I think it'll show up sooner than you think. No online cheerleader could compare to the encouragement of a best friend, but I will gladly join the ranks of people who "get it" and cheer you on. You have an awesome attitude and a beautiful spirit. You've done your part, just relax and let the doctors do their part tomorrow, then just walk, walk, walk and sip, sip, sip. You got this!

I've been on the liquid diet for more than 10 days now. I have 9 more to go, with the last 3 being clear liquids. I've been working out (walking on the treadmill, taking my dogs for walks) and the scale has barely moved. I'm cranky like no other! Yes, I know I should not be concerned with the scale at this point, but jeeeesh I would think that as hungry as I am ALL OF THE TIME that I would be losing something. Plus, if I can get my BMI below 50 I don't have to pay the extra $1000. I'm soooooo close...my BMI is 51.77 right now and I would really hate to be going thru this misery and end up shelling out another grand for a couple of lousy points! Sorry...venting. The hunger makes me angry.

Is everyone drinking protein shakes during their pre-op diet? I was told not to start them until 10 days post op which seems strange.

I felt the same way! With that you feel the scale should move more lol I get it (:

But do they help make you feel full during the liquid diet?

Absolutely! They are your main source of satisfaction. I found that I needed about 20g of protein every 4-5 hours to manage hunger pre-op, and it worked pretty well. It also helps prevent muscle loss.
