Ok. So i was supposed to have the band on jan 24th. Then, i have my friends tell me i should get sleeve bcus of obvious reasons. Perfect strangers in the surgeons office share their battle with the band and advise me to think about the sleeve. Needless to say, i instantly changed my mind and opted for the sleeve. But, i am having 2nd thoughts now.

Does anyone have fears of losing a major portion of their stomach? Can this surgery cause cancer in the long run? Will the stapling make us prone to ulcers? What is the life expectancy of sleeved individuals? My mind is going in circles right now.

I had some of the same thoughts before surgery, but all in all I felt like these worries didn't outweigh all of the things that my extra weight was holding me back from!

I Talked to my surgeon about ulcers and he told me that between bypass and sleeve, sleeves were less likely to develop ulcers. And since one if the issues that are developing with the band are erosions around the stomach where the band is, I actually think sleeve is less risky and will give a better outcome. As far as stomach being removed, I can't tell it's gone and I certainly don't miss it. I have a coworker who is banded and she frequently has to vomit up her food when she takes too big of a bite. Totally not attractive. So much so that she now refuses to eat in front of anybody. I don't think that's a lifestyle choice I want to develop. I'm sure there are pros and cons to each procedure, and it's up to you to determine which set of cons you are willing to live with.

Hi everyone!

I am new to the forum and have been lurking for the most part on here. I am having my VSG on Jan 23. I am so excited and nervous. I have 3 year old twin boys and a 9month baby girl. Nervous about recovery with the kids being around but I have a lot of outside help. I cannot wait to start this new chapter in my life. I have struggled with weight my entire life so I am looking forward to this change. So glad I found this forum so I can talk to others who understand and are going through the same thing!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
