Basic Plastic Surgery Research?

Recommended Posts

Can someone point me where to research to learn more? I have googled it, and read stuff off various doctors webpages but just want to really understand relative risks and odds of success with the procedures out there. I read about contouring, about how painful the arm and thigh work is etc etc but I don't really have a picture of what this is like to have done or what realistic expectations are.

When I started this weight loss I swore I would never have plastics because I didn't want more surgery. I am re-evaluating that rather strident position,

What type of surgery are you looking to get done?

I don't know. My midsection is still thicker then I ;like as I am an apple shape. I am hoping that the last 25 pounds helps with that. The hanging skin on the tummy isn't nearly as bad as I thought. I THINK I might be able to get by with the simplier skin removal there. My inner thighs and batwings are the bad areas but i know that thigh surgery has poor results. I was reading about body coutouring and wondering if that really works.

I see my shape and skin continue to change so i can see that it makes sense to wait for a bit more, but I am just getting my mind around the possibility....

I think the best thing to do would be to get a consultation with a doc in your area and ask him/her all your questions. The problem with internet research is not everyone does everything the same way, information could be outdated or even just plain wrong, etc. If you find a doctor you feel comfortable with you can get his/her opinion on what you should have done and go from there.

I've been looking at surgery too and found a doc I like. I just need to finish losing the weight, lol.

Here's a site I used while researching: http://www.plasticsurgeryportal.com/faq.cfm

Good luck with everything!

Also check out You Tube which as some VSG and plastic surgery video blogs. Cabernetqueen and Kellawanda both had plastic surgeries done and documented their surgeries.

Thanks!

I notice in the sleeve surgery discussion nearly EVERYBODY is terrified of the surgery itself.

How come people getting cosmetic surgery aren't also terror struck? It seems to me that some of these procedures are really QUITE big surgeries - am I wrong here?

I would defiantly get a consult. They are free usually. I just had mine the other day...found out that some of the things I thought I needed I don't, and other things that I didn't think would be that hard...like the Tummy Tuck ended up needing a lateral incision! Totally sucks. My doc said he won't Lipo my thighs because it is just loose skin there, not fat.....as well as my back....I am not going to be getting those areas fixed....my arms faired well, so nothing needed there, but the girls are in horrible shape 8) It was really great to be able to talk with the doc and get all my questions answered. I would suggest checking out the doc that you plan on seeing online for any complaints....or malpractice.

As for being less scarred for plastics...I think it's our frame of minds going into the two surgeries.....for the sleeve we go into it knowing that our precious food will be taken away...and we all absolutely love our food......but we don't love our body's. once we get over that hurdle, I think it's our brain working the opposite way. We hate our body image and plastic surgery will help us to feel more normal In our own skin. Still all the same risks with the two surgeries, just different ways our minds think.....that's my opinion anyways. Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
