Sleeping After Surgery?

Recommended Posts

Have any of you experienced changes in your sleep pattern since surgery? I sleep terribly...can't fall asleep and don't stay asleep well. I'm wondering if I should start taking something for it cuz I'm getting tired LOL

I have seen a difference in my sleep pattern. Im now usually in bed by 7-8pm and sleep 12 hours but wake up frequently thru the night and i even take naps during the day. Before surgery i went to bed at about 11 and woke up at about 6:30 am.

I did at first and went to my doctor. But, I was having other issues too, all connected to peri-menopause, so she put me on a low-dose anti-depressant two weeks after surgery and bam - back to normal, including sleeping. Of course sometimes I don't sleep well because of work stress or some other type of anxiety, but when that happens I take one Tylenol PM and I'm good. I saw on another post that there's something you can buy that has the sleep aid in Tylenol without the Acetominephan, but I can't remember what it is. You might try checking with your doctor first.

I had trouble before surgery. I was on sleeping med I got to where I weaned myself off of pill before surgery and had started sleeping. Since surgery I was only sleeping about 4 hours a night. Yesterday he gave me my sleeping pill back I am 2 weeks Post-OP and I slept most of night

it seems like benedryl is the only thing that works but i haven't tried other things maybe ill get a little tylenol pm to try. I cant take an actual sleeping pill because I need to get up with my son at least once a night unfortunately. it is getting a bit better than it was when i first got out of the hospital but not enough. i chalked it up to the 22 days of constantly being woken up every few hours but I'm on week three out of that and you'd think my body would let me sleep!

Yes, Benadryl is what they give a lot of patients in the hospital to sleep, but it tends to make me groggy in the morning. For some reason Tylenol PM does not. Good luck!

I too have issues sleeping...at first I couldn't sleep at all.

Now I get tired so easy but still have trouble sleeping. I'm hoping it's a post op side effect that will pass.

I'm going to talk to dr & NUT about it in 2 weeks for my 4th month checkup.

Here's to wishing both of us more sleep!!!

Tylenol P.M. has Benadryl (generic name Diphenhydramine HCl) in it, so don't waste your money. I used to use the generic brand from Sam's or costco, you get like 400 tablets for less than $10.

I also use a sleep tracker and have found immediately after surgery I slept heavy for 8+ hours but now I am back to my regular pattern--in bed for 8-9 hours a night but only getting 5-6 hours, waking up over 10 times a night. And it doesn't matter whether I wear my CPAP or not.

we're all going to be skinny zombies :P

Lol...too funny. I love the skinny part....not so thrilled with the dark circles.

Anyone else having issues with their energy levels? I'm 3.5 months out and some days are a challenge to keep going.

Yes, I am about 3.5 months out as well and am tired all the time. Exercise does help get it up so I would encourage some kind of exercise to have more energy. Besides all those endorphins are a natural high!

I'm doing exercise & weight training on a regular schedule.

What exercise are you doing? Maybe I should switch it up. I was starting to think it was due to the time of year ;-}

I don't really exercise, but when I do it is fast or uphill walking for 3 miles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
