Hair Loss Vs. Daily Vitamins

Recommended Posts

For those who have experienced hair loss what types of Vitamins were you instructed to take post-op? Did you add any additional Vitamins to your daily regimen?

Seems to me that surgeons/Nutritionists post op Vitamin intake instructions vary among those on the board who have had surgery. Please share your experience.

Thanks.

I'm 3.5 mths out and not losing tons of hair but thinner then before.

I take daily:

~ 2 multi-vitamins (1am & 1 pm)

~ 1 B complex

~ 3 Calcium chews (Costco brand - 1am, 1 noon, 1pm)....I had hard time with the calcium citrate pills

I take monthly:

~ 1 B12 injection (in place of the weekly sublingual pill)

Also make sure Protein is between 60-90 g daily. My nails have never been stronger!!!

I am taking a really good multi and:

CO-Q10

Biotin

B12 sublingual

And now I am considering taking extra Iron and zinc from what I read about hair loss. Luckily I have enough that if I lost a good amount I'd be okay but I feel for people who already have thin hair or really fine hair. No loss would be great but not getting my hopes up either. Good luck!

Another member on this site recommended this link to finding the best Vitamins on the market because not all vitamins are created equal. And in fact, some cannot not be absorbed! Here is the link if you are interested. I was already taking shaklee and was happy to see it is #5 out of #100. http://www.multivitaminguide.org/full-ranking.html

Thanks for your replies. I was trying to see if there is a common denominator (vitamin/nutrient deficiency) from the masses. Physician post-op Vitamin recommendations are all over the map.

I work with the surgeon who did my sleeve and he said the stress from the surgery and the stress of rapid weight loss is what causes the hair loss. He said Vitamins would slow it down but not stop it . He said it will stop on its own after a.month or so good luck

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
