Soy Protein

Recommended Posts

I do not have a NUT so I am hoping someone can tell me whether or not soy Protein is a good choice or if I should stick with the whey protein. Does anyone know? Thanks.

I would stick with Whey, soy can be your best friend or worse enemy. Took me a while to figure out I was allergic to it. I could stand in a walk in freezer and sweat buckets and constantly breaking out with hives and itching real bad. I blamed it on everything else in the world, but in the end it was the soy Protein. Once I stopped using it I had no more problems.

I am currently taking soy Protein, not by choice though, I am very lactose intolerant, and the whey, just didn't agree with me. I do not like consuming any soy because I found out a while ago it has hormones in it. I say if whey protein sits well on your tummy then go for it. Hope this helps!

I don't care for regular whey, but I have no problems with whey isolate. Whey isolate is lactose free.

That still bothered me and gave me horrible lactose intolerant symptoms, I'm just really sensitive to it I guess. There's also egg Protein, I thought about trying that one too.

Soy is an incomplete Protein. It's fine as part of your protein regiment but I can't recommend it as a primary protien source.

I got contrary information from my nutritionist. My nutritionist claims that tofu is a complete Protein. I'll have to research it. I grew up allergic to dairy products and grew up on soy milk. So I have relied on soy protein for most of my life. I'm not dead yet.

I guess that depends on how you define "complete protein". Yes, soy does contain all essential amino acids, and with a normal diet our bodies can produce any of the others soy does not contain. But we are not consuming a full diet so for our purposes I highly recommend using a protein that contains all of the amino acids that your body uses. The best being Whey, another great option (and vegan) is hemp, there are also vegetable protein blends available.

This doesn't even address the issue of excessive estrogen.

Soy is like anything else, it works for some and is deadly poison to others. It's very much the latter for me.

i guess we really need to find diverse sources of Protein - not relying on a single Protein every day. Maybe whey one day, beef the next, poultry on another, tofu on yet another, etc. That sounds like the safest course to me.

I eat chicken, beef, and alot of greek yogurt. When I see that I am not going to make it to my Protein goal for the day I will drink a Protein Shake. It is usually a whey protein (body fortress) shake. I have to force it down b/c I don't like the taste. So I heard that the soy Protein Shakes taste much better, but I know that some Proteins are not good for us or should I say our bodies absorb some proteins better than others. And was wondering if soy protein was a good or bad choose. I hope this makes sense :)

I don't recommend soy as a primary protein source, but if you are getting 75% of your protein from whole foods then you'll be fine with it.

If it's a taste issue, I'd suggest changing brands. I have used Protein powder as a supplement for 5 years & I get bored with the taste. Some flavors are just gross anyway. I have a small container of soy powder, and it does blend smoother but it leaves a wicked aftertaste. I like pure Protein Powder (I think I got it at Walmart or target), but not the Cookies & cream flavor (blechhhk!) I haven't tried the egg powder, but I saw on another site a bunch of recipes for Protein sources. One was "double milk" which is basically a glass of milk + 1/3c powdered milk blended in. I think it was the OH site...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
