Has anyone had migrains that caused vomiting with the band in place? I have a history of them in the past, but not for several years. Now Ive had a headach sort of like a migrain but not as severe, the thing is that durring dinner, Its as if a switch turned on and I was sevearly nauseated. I had to go and loose my dinner. I remember this happening before with migrains. I wanted to know if anylone has needed meds for this while having the band. I really hope this is a fluke.

I too suffer from migrain headaches. I do sometimes get nauseated with my migrains but not very often. As soon as I have a headache that resembles what is a "typical migrain" for me, I am extremely proactive and start taking my prescription medicine to stop the migrain. I call it a day and go to bed. If you tend to have vomiting with every migrain, I would suggest that you speak with your surgeon about this. He/she can prescribe some medicine for the nausea in the form of liquid or supository (?? spelling).

i actually have the reverse effect.. i choke on some food and get rid of it and them get a massive headache, but I do suffer from Migraines- Ive never had the Migraines affect my band directly though. I get headaches from being too weak, soi have to force food in me.

I have never had this problem. However, I would suggest that you contact your doctor immediately and tell him/her the symptoms you are experiencing. There is medication available to help with vomiting. It is expensive, but worth it when you realize that vomiting can cause your band to slip.

So sorry about the headache! I get them too. I get a eye attack (auras) about 30minutes before the migraine hits. It is sickening. I take my pill fast and hope it stops the nausia that will happen when it hits. It hasn't happened since banding, yet. I am worried the pill is too big. I used to have them all the time, and then I was able to figure out some food allergies I was having that triggered them. The biggest one is Sodium Nitrate. It is a preservative in any processed meat, lunchmeat, ham, sausage, pepperoni, etc. Apparently I am not othe only one with this severe allergy, it is a very common trigger. Luckily, I have found some items with no SN in them. If you think you may have a food trigger, email me I have lots mor info about more bad ones. Good Luck!

This is something that I worry a great deal about . I am not banded yet , Shooting for December. But I have chronic migraines . I am on preventatives now for them . Off of my meds I average about 4 migraines a week. Which generally will make me throw up about 2 of those. I had a dentist ask me once if i was bulimic. I told her " Do I LOOK Like im bulimic at 248 pds " LOL .

I CAN If i have to STOP myself from vomitting however, usually throwing up HELPS Me migraines . I have been known to make myself vomit to relieve the pressure off my head.

I try the best I can to catch the migraines with meds. Imetrex, amerge, Zomig, Ect...

Luckily now that im on Topamax and Wellbutrin I average about 2 a month instead of 4 or more a week. Plus I stopped smoking and that helped me ALOT.

But migraines and vomitting is on my list of things to discuss with my surgeon.

There are meds available that are not in pill form when you DO get a migraine, imetrex has a nasal spray (it leaves a NASTY after taste though) Imetrex also has an injection, which works that fastest . Maxalt has a dissolveable pill you put under your tounge that works fast. I prefer that one myself. Migranal also has a nasal spray , I havent tried that one yet though. Hope that helps a bit.

this could be your "full" signal since as bandsters we do not feel that full feeling any longer. What happens is you get a signal, some have runny noses, some havea hiccup, others have a pain in the shoulder. I had the headaches, it was only at dinner, it was like a ice cream headache. Listen to your body this could be your signal telling you that you are full if it only happens when you eat.

WOW I have never heard this before. It makes sense to me that you have to learn the "full feeling" though . Since most of us probably do not know what the normal "full" feels like. This is interesting.

well, I get headaches now that are so bad that I'm in so much pain I throw up. Different than migraine throwing up. Weird difference.

See if you can get zofran odt for the nausia. They disolve on your tounge.

I would also talk to your doctor about whether you should take a migraine preventive drug. I take Toprol XL, which both lowers my blood pressure and prevents the migraines. My quality of life has greatly improved since I started the Toprol.

I also have a prescription for Phenergan, an antihistamine that prevents/treats nausea and vomiting. It comes in both pills and suppositories, and is relatively inexpensive. (The suppositories are for use if you're already vomiting so much you couldn't keep a pill down.) The downside, if you consider it a problem, is that it usually makes me sleepy. But if the migraine is so bad that I'm upchucking, sleep is the best thing I can do. I also use ice on my head.

I think that's very interesting that headache may be a sign of being full. I'll have to watch and see if that might be happening with me. My headaches have gotten a lot worse since I got banded, but I thought that might be because I've halved my dose of Toprol, since my blood pressure was getting too low with the weight loss.

DOH! Anytime you have a new or different headache, especailly one that is really bad like vomiting, you *NEED* to have it checked by your doctor. Not, "well, you might want to have it looked at," but NEED TO HAVE IT DONE!!!!!

I could not agree with you more. I have had migraines for 20 yrs , since i was 11yrs old. I had tried EVERYTHING . I finally gave up on trying new preventatives because i figured" what's the point nothings going to work anyway " Finally my doc started me on Topamax I decided " OK I"ll TRY IT " It works . It has some strange side affects that I have heard others on my migraine boards just cant handle. For instance , the one's I have are numbness in my hands and feet( usually in the tips of my fingers and the bottoms of my feet) tinglying sinsations in my face and forgetfullness.

The numbness is usually short term lasts for about 20 mintues when it comes on . SOME People can not tolerate it at all. But i figure its better than having a migraine. The meds have decreased my migraines from 3-4times aweek 5-6 in the summer to 1-2 a month . Its VERY manageable now along with the wellbutrin.

I did not realize HOW bad I felt until i started feelign " Normal"

I personally HIGHLY recommend preventatives. It takes a while sometimes to find the right one but its worth it .

Thank you so much everyone, I was plagued by migrains in 2002. I had several diagnosis, My dentest said I had TMJ and gave me a bite guard, My chiropracter said my atlas was out of adjustment, my eye Dr. said I needed bifocals, My gynocologist said I had too much estrogen and finally my headache specialist said I had been a migraineur all my life but only recently did they get extream. My only relief came from zomig and imetrex and something I got in an IV a few times.

The real amazing thing is that those meds precipitated a spastic coronary artery and I needed emergency angioplasty and a stent placement.

That totally stopped my migrains. Totally, it was truly amazing. So evidently the heart was needing more blood and caused my body to vasodialate. I then learned that those meds caused vasoconstriction, waayy bad for the heart.

Please have your heart checked if you have cronic or increasing migrains. Women have very different sypmtoms for heart problems, I had no classic symptoms, sweating, numbness, pain in the sholder or arm etc. I only felt cold under my left underarm.

Really check out your heart.

I found that for these recent headachs, I was gettilnlg dehydrated. The day after I wrote this, I purposed to drink tons of water and fast everything else.

I rested and drank and drank.

I ended the head pain and now I will try this before I try any meds if it happens again.

There are studies going on now that suggest that some migraine pts have tiny holes in their hearts . Its something that was found my accident by fixing these holes and in turn those pts that had migraines no longer hvae them . Its not known yet if ALL migraines pts have these holes . Migraine pts who are known to have auras are more likely to the holes since these holes can lead to strokes. . I asked my neuro about this . He said " Is it promising yes" would I tell you to go have HEART Surgery to FIX Your migraines ABSOLUTELY NOT ". It is something that I think eventually may lead to something promising . But for now I think its one of those things that happen to "Fix" people with migraines by accident who they found the whole in . I personally think it could be something BIG in the way of curing migrianes.

What Victorianna was saying however about her doc telling her she had TMJ and too much estrogen is not untrue either. Most migraines pts have TMJ .

TMJ Is not the "cause" Of migraines but it doenst help either.

The estrogen deal could also be PCOS . Both conditions I have. Again not something that causes them but contributes to them , making things more difficult to treat .
