What Foods Cant You Eat?

Recommended Posts

Anyone tried Prime Rib with alot of au jus? My husband, son and Mom are going out for Thanksgiving. I have alot of trouble with chicken so I imagine it will be the same with Turkey. I want to try the Prime Rib since it's pretty good at the restaurant we're going to. I want to be able to eat if front of my Mom w/o having problems. She is already not a very good band supporter.

Potatoes of any kind, unless they're artificial mashed potatoes. My band will not allow potatoes to pass, which is not a bad thing unless it's in Soup and oops there goes a potato. I don't eat bread so that may be an issue too. I tried cake and that doesn't go down, but the filling of a lemon meringue pie will cruise through.

Never eaten duck... dont think i ever would.. is it similiar to chicken? is there white and dark meat?

Duck is delicious, especially when well prepared. It is soft and almost melts in your mouth....yummy!

I was banded on October 12th and have not had a fill yet. I can eat almost anything, except for dryer things: breads, dry chicken, but the worst thing that does not go down....LUNCHMEAT! I cannot eat even the thin shaved ham! It always gets stuck. We went to eat Chinese food the other night and I had Pad Thai and that got stuck too. I had to excuse myself and go to the restroom to vomit it up...i can eat Pasta, but it has to have a sauce that goes down good. The pad thai noodles were dry and not very gummy!

RICE is probably my personal death promise. Only time I miss it going to Chinese restuarants, which doesn't happen much anymore seeing as my wife has finally figured out she's alergic to MSG.

bread I just generally stay away from (a small bite now and then, but it does not bode well for me). I miss my occasional piece of Med-Rare steak, but not enough to cause me pain :-)

Pasta I stay way from, doesn't get stuck, but just feel too full too fast and would rather fill that space with better foods.

I need to ammend my list since recently I have PBing every week. So far, here are the things which have made me PB:

eggs

Thick-cut or "kettle cooked" potato chips

Nuts

French fries

Any kind of fast food

Collard greens

Flax seeds

Hot dogs

Most of these have made me PB more than once, so they are now on my "no no" list. After just one time I will try a food again, but once it happens again with a specific food, that food is forever banned.

My list of no-no's:

Potato's of any kind:F/F's, baked, creamed, sweet potato's, chips, tots

chicken in any consistency (except deviled chicken...like deviled ham)

Breads ...no wraps either

Rice

Milk

Green Leafy Vegetables

Onion...cooked or raw

* I'm amazed at some things I can eat and other similar things that I cannot! Example....can't do the softest and juicest chicken, but I can eat a few of Chili's Babyback Ribs! Go figure!!

:hungry: I can eat almost anything as of now, except biscuits, and I really love them, last time i ate a Biscuit it didnt want to go down, and almost i panicked, Thank Goodness it went down, :clap2: . I have ate steak but have to be careful, white chicken, I have to be careful on, I now eat kfc chicken legs there great ! pork chops are pretty good, if cooked trender. and my all time favorite is a Frappachinno !! :biggrin1:

Virginia, I am trying to bite my tongue, but it's not working! :)

I don't think anyone wants to become the food police, I sure don't, but the main reason most of us are here is for support and information. So, I hope you'll take this message in that vein.

As I know you've probably heard a zillion times, the lap-band is a tool. If we want to lose weight, we have to work with it. KFC chicken, unless you're removing all the skin, isn't a good choice. Instead, how about picking up a rotisserie chicken? Around here they are about $3.75, which is comparable to lunch at KFC.

But even worse is Frappuccino. Those things can have 300-500 calories each! Instead, if you really want something cold and thick, maybe try one of the smoothie places. When I was still on liquids and was stuck out without lunch one time, I went to smoothie King and got a 20 oz. chocolate Slim and Trim with Splenda instead of Turbindo, for about 170 calories. It was really delicious, and I could only drink about half of it.

Good luck with your lap-band journey!

Tami

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
