Crying...why Am I Having More Issues?

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately it looks like I'm going to have to go to the ER which I totally dread. My doctor's office thinks I would be better off doing that then coming to them because I would get faster answers. So, waiting on my husband to get off and then I'll be heading that way. :/

@LJP: My nephew weighs between 10-12lbs. I was hurt after picking him up, but that was the muscle area in my abdomen. Definitely won't be doing that again. This pain seems unrelated since it didn't start until several days later, but then again who knows. Hopefully I'll know more today.

I know that it is always awful to have to go to the ER, but I am glad that you are getting checked out. It does sound like last week you pushed yourself a little hard and set yourself back lifting a little too much - it's hard when you're used to doing so much more and then you're feeling better and it's easy to slip into hurting yourself again. I am 9 weeks out and my boss had me move a ton of boxes on Sunday and I have been having abdominal pain/burning on and off since then. A good reminder that it takes a LONG time to completely heal and I need to be a little more sensitive to my body.

It sounds like you've had just a really hard time all around though, so I do really hope that this is something small that they will be able to treat quickly and get you back on the road to recovery. Let us know how it goes - I'll keep you in my thoughts!

Thanks to all for the well wishes. My hubby took me to the ER around 3p yesterday when he got off and aftwr running several tests they admitted me to the hospital for observation, pain management, and antibiotics. First of all I have a UTI, I'm mildly dehydrated, and the severe pain is coming from my kidney. The area around my kidney is swollen and the pain is now radiating from the right flank (around my kidney) to my upper right quadrant in my abdomen. They did blood work and there were some small abnormalities, but nothing too drastic and they also did a CT scan which showed no failure or swelling to my kidney at this time which is good news. The bad news is that they are unaware of what is cashing the swelling and severe pain around my kidney. They are stumped and of course I'm frustrated bc I want to know what is going on and how to fix it. They are wanting to do a couple days of antibiotics to see if that inadvertently helps with the pain bc there is a slight chance that the UTI is causing the swelling. Not likely bc the UTI isn't that severe, but weirder things have happened.

So, all that said, I'm getting 4mg Morphine every 2 hours and Phenergan and IV antibiotics every 6. I'm typically very sensitive to pain meds, but the morphine is not touching my pain. It is very severe and very bizarre. The doctor, whom I've actually not seen today, refused to change my pain meds until he can speak to me tomorrow so while I'm getting some managemwnt of my pain I am disappointed that they aren't trying a little harder to control it. If it weren't for the phenergan, which knocks me out cold for about 3 hours at a time, I'd probably be much more miserable. I am hoping to get more answers soon, but I am at least at a facility where I'm being somewhat taken care of.

Thanks again for all of your prayers and for checking in.

Rachael

Also, please excuse my spelling and grammar errors just this once. My head is really foggy and my fingers don't exactly want to do what I want them to do. :)

It sounds as if you may be experiencing gallbladder issues. Better safe than sorry...seek medical attention. I hope you feel better soon. Best of luck

They actually thought it could be that, but my gallbladder, along with all of my other organs, looks great.

They are just trying to figure out where this swelling is coming from or what is causing it. I will be glad when they do, but the good news is that my organs all look fine. No kidney or gallstones.

Hey guys. First, thank you all for your prayers and kind words. I was admitted after going to the ER on Tuesday and was in the hospital for 5 days. I was on IV morphine and dilaudid around the clock for my pain and on phenergan for my nausea. I had multiple tests ran to try to find the root of my problem. First they did an ultrasound (everything looked fine) & then they did a CT with contrast through my IV (everything looked fine). After my 2nd day there my surgeon was contacted and he immediately jumped in and wanted to make sure nothing was wrong from my surgery. He ordered another ultrasound and another CT with contrast, although this time I had to drink the contrast to make sure there was no leak. Both of these tests looked "beautiful" (my surgeon's words) and there was no leak. I was very happy that everything looked great, but extremely frustrated that they could not figure out what was going on. On a last ditch effort, they called in a disease control specialist to see if he could help with the diagnoses because there was clearly a problem. I was unable to sit down, lay down, stand, or walk without a nurse or my husband's assistance. It has been a horrible week to say the least. This has been the most excruciating pain I've ever experienced. Anyways, this doctor thinks that I have SHINGLES without the rash. So, I was discharged and started on antivirals plus a ton of pain meds to help with the pain. Please pray he is right because I'm so sick of being sick and in so much pain! My blood test did show I had elevated liver enzymes which was of some concern, but I will go back for another blood test this week to see if that has gone back down or if they need to dig further.

Thanks again!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
