My Friend Died Last Night - Complications Of Sleep Apnea

Recommended Posts

Don't mess around with this. If you have a CPAP/BIPAP machine, USE IT! If you suspect sleep apnea, get a sleep study.

I am so sorry you lost your friend :(

sleep studies are a pain - I just had my second one and I find out later this week if I still need my cpap - it is really important to take good care of ourselves with the apnea.

I am so sorry for the loss of your friend. Yes, if you have sleep apnea, please take care of it. My best friend lost her Dad last year to ii, it was heartbreaking...and sooo cureable!

Sorry for your loss. Thanks for your reminder. They think I have "Mild sleep apnea" & I have to tell you, I've really been complaining about having to use one! I REALLY hate it (I'm a VERY light sleeper so it's been difficult to adjust to one); however, your post puts it into perspective. I can put aside my hate, for life! Will be praying for you & your friend's family.

Wow! I'm sitting in my car outside a sleep center to have my 2nd overnight sleep study done because my numbers were so bad tonight I get the CPAP and they'll compare readings! I've been a cry baby all day about it-you're post gave me the slap I needed! I am so sorry for your loss, and I thank you for making me more aware if the seriousness of this! I thank God I looked into the Bariatric surgery or I may never have gone to a dr. I thought it was my weight and asthma when I couldn't breath while sleeping.

Thank you so very much everyone for the support and well-wishes. Chris was a special guy and a ray of sunshine to everyone he met.

I was whiny baby about the BIPAP. I didn't take it seriously enough obviously. Glad this was a heads-up for you all.

I was sleeved on Sept 20 with Dr. D Kim. When released from the hospital the next day the nurses casually mentioned not o use my Cpap. I was shocked but complied until I was abl to get an email off to doc on Mon. They responded that they preferred to not use it while healing but if I needed it it was ok to use it. I did use it for the next night but I have to say I did notice more abdominal pressure the next morning. I have compromised and used my older machine with a lower pressure. I am more cautious with it now and do not use it for every nap that I take. Thanks for reminding us about the importance of it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
