Low Bmi, Insurance Denied :(

Recommended Posts

My BMI was 39' date=' with no major health issues. After talking to my insurance company, I knew they would never pay for the surgery. I decided to make it happen. I borrowed from my jobs 401 plan, as a medical hardship, went to Mexico and had it done. Where there's a will there's a way![/quote']

Is it 10,0000$ to get the procedure done?

I also had a BMI under 40 AND insurance that does not cover WLS period. I also opted for a trip across the border. My surgery cost $4500.00 which I paid most of out of my Medical Flex 125 account through my employer so that is tax free and interest free to me :) I just pay back through payroll deductions over the course of the year. Unfortunately, the IRS guidelines are changing next year lowering the max contribution amount to $2,500.00.

Keep your head up I'm struggling with the same problem 246 @ 5'7 BMI under 40 I was told to gain weight 15 lbs but if that's what I have to do to get o my life Goal weight 160 I will. Can we try other companies? And request all of our test we took? I'll check and keep u posted. Don't look down look up. Something will happen for us.

Many ins companies will ask for a two year weight history from your pcp for a bmi of 40. For bmi lass than 40 to 35 you may need one or two comorbidities as well

Hi all my name is Jenna and my surgeon has scheduled me for the VSG on 10/24 only to get denied by my insurance. Dr is going to do verbal appeal tomorrow. Fingers crossed! I appreciate no negative comments. Just because my BMI isnt 40 or more doesn't mean I do not deserve a chance to be healthier.

Did you get approved yet? I'm still praying for u. And me.

My surgery was just over two weeks ago... between the pre-op diet and the surgery itself, I am down 23 lbs... I have not exercised one bit because I cannot seem to drink any Protein, therefore no energy... it all runs right through me.. They released me to pureed yesterday so that I can start taking in Protein via food... I will be swimming and yoga starting next week though...

I had to gain ten pounds sounds silly but to me I'm 75lbs overweight and always unhappy so to gain 10 more was harder than I thought but was well worth it. I pray something will change for you. I'm 252 at 5'7.. I pray you get good news and also call the insurance company and see actually why they denied you. Remember everything happens for a reason my friend. I hope you ok!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
