Anyone Else Freaking About Hair Loss?!

Recommended Posts

I'm awaiting surgery approval and I'm totally ready to change my life, my behavior and my body, but I'm more than a little FREAKED out over the almost certain hair loss!!

Being a fat girl, my hair was always a part of me that I liked. Although I have "lots" of hair, it's fine and I'm terribly afraid the loss will be really obvious.

"Hey, you look great after losing all that weight!!! Too bad you have that ginormous bald spot that covers one side of your head..."

Yes, it freaked me out too but it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. I started at 4 months and it pretty much slowed to normal Hair loss at 6 1/2 months. Hopefully your hair loss will be minimal. The way I look at it , small price to pay to have my life back. I feel freaking fantastic, my relationship with my husband is back, I can do stuff with my kids now, shop anywhere I want...woo hoo! Best of luck to you!

Protein... protein.... protein... Fredderick Fekkei (sp?) He makes an awesome Protein enriched Shampoo and conditioner. It's a little pricey but well worth it...

Thanks for this post....I know this is so wrong but my main concern wasn't that they are gonna cut out half my stomach, but that I will lose my hair! For so many years my hair was the only thing I had going for me, and to lose all that would be devastating...lol...I know it sounds rediculous! But once you lose your hair does it ever come back?

I was feeling the exact same way. Worrying doesn't help. You will lose hair, but you will most likely not get bald spots. I lost hair- my hair is my thing too, still is. It wasn't fun as it was happening, but it lasts 3-5 months then it stops, you still look normal, nobody will notice but you. it grows back. It will be ok! I am living proof.

Yes, you are going to lose some hair, but it will grow back. I had about 3 months of loss, then it started coming back. 6 months later you would have never known I had ever lost any hair.< /p>

Yes, it was thinner, but I styled it a bit differently and put some gel in. Just a small bump in the worthwhile road.

I had to take some shots a few years ago that was similar to chemo & my hair got "thinner" Thank God I had thick hair, but I used this shampoo/ cond. called Nioxin & it worked great!! Hope that helps you!!

Thanks all for joining in my petty neuroses! Your comments made me feel better. For the most part... ;)

I went through it for about 3-4 months. I just noticed a lot more hair in my hairbrush and all over the place! I could tell my hair was not as thick, but absolutely no one else could tell at all, even when I had them looking. It is not that big of a deal and there is very little you can do to prevent it. It is caused from the stress of your body trying to heal from the surgery and getting used to your new diet. It is not caused by, as many people think, by lack of nutrition or Protein as I was eating 100 grams of protein a day, taking Vitamins.< /p>

Ha i just said that to my husband last night--as a fat girl my "thing" is hair and makeup. My hair is also fine but plentiful. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that it wont be really severe!

I've experienced Hair loss around the 4 month mark after giving birth to all 3 of my kids. It did suck and it mostly happened around my face but it did eventually grow back. I'm expecting the same type of hair loss after surgery and it's completely normal. The thing that worked for me was getting a shoulder length bob haircut with side swept bangs. No one even noticed that my hair was thinning a little and when I pointed it out most would shrug their shoulders like they couldn't even tell because they couldn't. You will notice the hair loss but most others wont. I have very thick hair and it was weird being able to see my scalp but it really wasn't that big of a deal looking back. You will be fine :)

this is definitely one of my biggest fears and worries. I already have some thinning on top thanks to PCOS. I don't want to be bald.

There's a big difference between post-pregnancy hair loss and post-sleeve Hair loss. During pregnancy the rate at which you lose hair actually slows down. Hormone changes after pregnancy cause you to lose that "extra" hair as you return to your normal rate.

We have no "extra" hair when going in for sleeving!! Your fortunate to have thick hair. Me? Not so much...

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
