Ok so please don't judge me on this. I know I cannot be the only one... Does anyone out there find themselves eating anything they want prior to surgery and pre op diet? I logically know my eating habits will have to change entirely- therefore I am like oh yea let me have a bowl of ice cream with hot fudge- better have all the goodies now while I still can! However I definitely feel icky from doing this for a few weeks. Just want some reassurance other folks have gone through this.

You are not alone. But if you're gonna eat that way, at least start working out hard. It will make your recovery easier if you're in better shape.

Unfortunately I am in the same boat. Even though I know it's wrong I am doing it. I am not required a preop diet so I am eating what I want now and will do my own preop diet the week of.

There is a forum on here about this very thing...called "Over eating" you are not a lone look it up and you will see that it happens to a lot of pre-ops....:)

I did it too when I first made my decision. But I couldn't stand myself so I stopped. Now I eat just normally. But after my first appointment with the surgeon tomorrow (and he records my weight) I think I'm going to start eating better and exercising so that whenever I have surgery I will bounce back quicker and have better habits than I do now.

I ate anything and everything I wanted! I was not required to do a preop diet....I gained 20 pounds in 3 months! I think its normal , sorta like a food funeral!

I've been doing the same thing., I really wasn't planning on eating like this but I just have been. My pre op diet was just to eat right so I don't think I really messed up that much if I were on a liquid diet.< /p>

I haven't had my surgery date scheduled yet, but I have my psych eval on the 24th and after that I can schedule my date. I need to do a liquid pre-op diet 4-7 days prior to surgery, the last day Clear liquids only.

However... I began eating better last week. I cut way back on sugar (limited), diet soda (never drank much anyway) and coffee (again rarely if ever). I rarely ate sweets/sugar before, so it's not a biggie to cut those out. BUT I do love starchy/carby foods. Pasta, potatoes (mashed or baked - my faves), fresh baked bread, etc. And I know my portions are way too big. I have upped my Protein and vegetables and am slimming down my carbs. I figure if I can eat that way at least 70-80% of the time, then it wouldn't be the end of everything if I have an extra piece of bread or crackers here or there along the way.

Starting next week I will transition 1 meal a day into a Protein shake and 2 regular meals and see how I do for that. 2 weeks prior to my pre-op I will transition 2 meals a day into Protein Shake and 1 regular meal and then move onto the pre-op diet. I haven't really had the "food freakout" that others here have experienced... yet. But maybe it is because I don't have an official surgery date on the calendar. I'll probably be more anxious once that is set.

However - it does seem as if every time I turn on my T.V., I see a commerical for Red Lobster. OMG. Coconut shrimp and Cheddar Bay Biscuits!!!!

Hang in there! I know you will be successful.

I am eating everything also. I plan to quit when I get a surgery date. Did chemical stress test and echocardiagram today so think I'm done with my tests.

You have NO idea how relieved I am to see there are others going through the same as me. I have been eating terribly and I am now ready for the pre op diet to start but my hospital is sooooo slow in scheduling me to see the surgeon so I am just stuck. I do believe that we will all see this through to the end!! Come on surgery!:)

I did the same before pre op diet. I'm now 4 weeks post op. if I can offer any advice... Cut out the caffeine now!!! It will be hard to go through the headaches and withdrawals once you start the pre op diet because your body will be going through a lot of other changes and adjustments.

No judgement here! I fell deeeeep into "last meal syndrome". My last Nutrition Class I gained 12 lbs! The first time I had any gain at all since November of last year. My dietician pulled me to the side and went off (nicely, sorta) on me. LOL

She looked me dead in the eye and said "you're only digging the hole deeper for yourself. this weight you're putting on isn't going to come off as easily as it's piling on.". I didn't eat perfectly after that, but it helped to snap me out of that whole "OMG I'm never going to have this again so I need to gorge myself on it" that I was doing. It was bad, bad, bad.

Thank you all for your posts. I am going to pick myself up out of this place! I have cut my diet soda addiction, quit smoking, and I can do this!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
