No I am not where I want to be...and I understand totally about the small quantities of crap!! I don't exercise maybe that will help cause I have been the same for a while now the only difference is now I am not using any diet pills etc. to help which is what I was doing to get where I am now.

No i'm not where i want to be but like you said the small portions of crap doesn't help. i'm still pleased with how far i have come but i know that i could of been farther if i would eat better.

I don't know how many of you chose not to tell anyone about having the band, i was one who only told my parents, well my mom told me today that she let it slip... to my aunt that i had the band done. I am so upset with her for this, you see she is thinking about having the surgery and she had decided to tell people, and i knew when she decided to tell people that she would end up telling about me. I had asked her not to tell anyone over and over. She doesn't understand why i'm upset with her, so i'm asking .... do you think that i'm over reacting? I just feel that she told on purpose, and I wouldn't of said anything about her if she would ask me not to. Now i feel stupid around my aunt. When asked how i have been losing i would always just say i was eating smaller portions, which wasn't a lie. Oh well there's nothing i can do about it now.

i dont think you are overreacting.

i told everyone mainly becuz 2 aunts worked in the office and i knew they would tell everyone else so i beat them to it...

but if you told her nto to say anything then she should have kept that to you.

went to Friacos witht he hubby. i was so excited since we've been kinda tense with each other. ordered the Beans, & figured i could pick at a bean tostada and a steak taco. well didnt pay enuf attention to the steak and it so got stuck. pb'in in a public bathroom was sooooo not on my friday to do list!!!

do you think that i'm over reacting?

Yes. And I don't really understand why you've kept a secret for what is almost an entire year now. I didn't tell people in the beginning--I wanted my privacy in recovery. But once people started noticing, I came clean. Simply because I wouldn't have liked it if, at my highest weight, someone lied to me about how they were losing weight.

Are you ashamed you had the surgery?

Also, getting the lapband isn't like getting a tooth pulled, and you know that. Your aunt is making a very big decision and your mother knows that you have a lot of experience and knowledge to share. Why don't you want to help your aunt make an educated decision about whether or not to have the surgery?

Had this question come up months ago, I might have given you different feedback. But, c'mon...it's been a year.

What do you think is going to happen once people know?

I didn't tell everyone...only a few people know like my immediate family and a few friends. I will tell someone that I know won't blab my business and if it is to help them. Especially since I was like a 37 BMI and a lot of people think I didn't need the band.

Hi All,

Well...I got the call I've been wanting from Dr. Ren's office this afternoon. The insurance company approved my surgery!

Apparently, they initially denied me for not weighing enough. Nilsa, the insurance clerk, immediately asked for an expedited appeal. The person who did the appeal review reversed the decision & faxed an approval letter right away.

We submitted about 50 pages of medical history and other documentation. One of the advantages, I think, of taking 9 months from deciding to have the surgery to actually getting it set up is that I was able to get all my facts together. With the exception of a chest x-ray, I already had done everything the doctors and insurance company wanted.

So, a week from Monday, I'll be checking into NYU Medical Center for my band. Only 50 more Protein shakes to go! :rose:

Wheres our Oct 2006 people??? I know Ive been m.i.a. and just realized its our bandaversary. Really would like to hear from the original crew to see everyones progress and see how I measure up. Cant say that Ive been very rigid with my diet but very happy with my weight loss so far. It hasnt been easy the past year but always a progression downwards on the scale. Ive had my fair share of running to bathroom in resturaunts to pb but also has been a learning experience along the way of what is tolerable and not tolerable. I had one instance after a fill of being overfilled no joy in that. But overall has been a great year because I feel like I got my life back. Im no longer afraid go out Im enjoying life again. I would like to hear from you guys. Please write. Ive lost 62 pounds to date and have 30 more to go!:whoo:

ITS HARD TO BELIEVE BUT OUR BANDAVERSARY IS HERE!!:faint: I TOO HAVE NOT LOST ALL I WANT TO. BUT WOULDN'T WANT TO HAVE IT BACK EITHER!!:) SOME OF THESE BOARDS DEPRESS ME, READING ABOUT HOW THEY HAVE LOST 129LBS IN 6 MO ECT. :ranger: IT MADE ME FEEL LIKE A COMPLETE FAILURE!:phanvan:paranoid:tired. I FEEL BETTER LOOKING AT THE MAJORITY OF OUR NUMBERS ARE SOMEWHERE AROUND 60LBS. I NEED TO INCREASE MY EXERCISE TOO:bored. I WILL GIVE YOU SOME ADVISE. DON'T DO WHAT I DID:rolleyes: I DECIDED I WASN'T LOOSING SO I WENT TO THE SLIMFAST shakes 2X DAY AND ONE salad MEAL AT NIGHT. I GUESS I WASN'T GETTING ENOUGH CALORIES AND I TOTALLY STOPPED LOOSING! WENT BACK TO 6 SMALL MEALS AND LOST 3 LBS THE 1ST WEEK! JUST SOME ADVICE FROM SOMEONE WHO TRIED IT:heh:

LINADU:I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND. I DIDN'T TELL EITHER EXCEPT MY IMMEDIATE FAMILY-MOM, SISTERS. MY SISTER APPARENTLY TOLD HER MOTHER IN LAW. WHY, I DON'T KNOW. BUT RECENTLY AT A FAMILY BIRTHDAY PARTY SHE CORNERED ME AND SAID "DIDN'T YOU HAVE THAT SURGERY FOR WT LOSS? " I WAS STUNNED BUT I DIDN'T LIE. SHE THEN PROCEEDED TO SAY "THEN WHY HAVEN'T YOU LOST MUCH WT?" I WAS DEVASTATED FOR WEEKS! THIS IS WHY I DIDN'T TELL. IF I FAILED IT WAS MY PROBLEM. (I SELF-PAYED FOR SURGERY). NO - ONE UNDERSTANDS THIS ISN'T LIKE THE GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY. IT COMES OFF SLOWER. I GRANTED COULD AND SHOULD PROBABLY BE DOWN MORE. BUT I CAN'T AFFORD FILLS AT $200/POP AND I HAVE ONLY HAD 3 WHERE I SHOULD HAVE PROBABLY HAD 5-7 BY NOW. BUT THAT IS NONE OF HER BUISNESS ANYWAY. I TOTALLY AGREE W/ LINADU- YOUR PRIVATE WEIGHT STRUGGLES SHOULD BE PRIVATE:mad:

ON A LIGHTER NOTE, I FEEL ENCOURAGED AFTER READING EVERYONE'S POSTS. MAYBE I AM IN THE NORMAL RANGE OF LOSS AFTER ALL!!

STARTING BMI 54 NOW 48 I GUESS THAT IS SOMETHING!!! DOWN FROM SIZE 32 TO 26. (IT'S HARD TO NOTICE WHEN YOU ARE THIS BIG) LETS KEEP GOING. LOOK AT IT THIS WAY. 60 LBS AGAIN BY NEXT YR AND WE WILL BE DOWN 120!!!:whoo::clap2::cool::clap2::):whoo:

things are going ok for me

i go in for another fill tomorrow, i've pretty much lost my restriction and have been eating all the wrong things. thank god i've been working out or i would have gained at least 10 pounds instead of staying the same or one up one down...

i exercise daily and have even started running. i love the endorphine rush that i get from it!!!

i still have about 85-90 pounds to go ... :) but i'd rather be where i am now than where i was a year ago.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
