October 2006 Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

I'm on Post Op Day 13. Which for me means full liquids until Friday. I've been pushing the envelope a bit. I can have thinned out mashed potatoes and such. But I haven't always been thinning them to liquid. I find that if I don't thin them enough I get definite warning signs that I need to thin them out more.

The only pain I still get I think is from the internal stitches. If I bend or twist the wrong way. Pain in my chest if I eat too fast. Pain in my shoulder has gotten better, but it's still there. I can't wait for that to go away.

My friend had her surgery 2 weeks before me and she still has some port area pain. But I don't have any.

It day 8 and since I had my surgery in Mexico I dont have any followup here in the states. Does anyone know what Im supposed to do with my badages? I think I was told 7 days then what? Put new ones on? I also thought I heard wait until they fall off? Also one little thing, the bandage where my port got a little ugly. I went out for the fist time all day yesterday doing errands and I felt a surface pull and I think I broke the scab over the port bandage. common sense is telling me to take the bandage off clean and replace. Did this happen to anyone?

Down 9.5 yeah!

Roxy123.... my surgery was on the 6th, on a friday... by that Sunday I was told to take off the top bandages... then my 1st Dr.'s appt was on Thursday, which they told me to go ahead and remove the steristrips in the shower that night... maybe you should call your Dr.'s office and make sure.

Bckeye01.... I've asked in other threads about the soreness in the port area... they've said the port area soreness will last anywhere from a month to a month and a half.... then they don't even feel where the port is anymore.... I can't wait for that day

I also took my bandages off the next day... I was able to shower so I removed them.. I was told to leave the steri strips on until they fell off..or just about..so I will leave them on for awhile..

i was told to shower twice a day and remove the steri strips 48hours after surgery. You want to keep the incision sites clean and dry. You can go to the drug store and buy Betadine solution to clean the incision sites in the shower(make sure you are not allergic to iodine) pat them dry and go. if you are still having some oozing, you may want to cover them up with some gauze and medical tape. Go to the drug store, they have an entire section for wound care!!! happy shopping

HI Everyone, I am home now and wished I wouldn't have spend the night at the hospital. The 2rd shift ppl suck. Plus they wake you up all night and then not even close your door when they leave. But My surgery went good and I have had a very easy time so far. Just sore at port which is in the middle of my tummy. But back to the big easy!!! (doing nothing) LOL Mary

Glad to hear our newly banded folks are doing great! Good luck to macdeb59, moon goddess, three beauties, Denise2, kennedy,

mdk63, Ward1990, and Momotrips!! You ladies will do great!!

I am 16 days out and my port site is still tender. I can sleep on my side and my stomach, but the incision is tender. Granted I've had some draining and my surgeon had to open the wound last week to let it drain out a bit, so I think that is part of it. I was told to leave my steri strips on until they fell off but when I went in for my two week follow up, they took them off.

The liquid stage is tough. The first week I would get hungry but never eat more than a few bites of anything. Going into the second week I was sooooo hungry but I didn't want to eat Soup or any of the liquids. After a few days of that I would get hungry and enjoy my soup. Now in my third week, I am doing ok with the soup, etc but am looking forward to starting mushies this weekend.

One thing I've noticed is that I have really bad breath. It's quite embarassing. Has anyone else noticed this??

VERY funny you say that about breath. I noticed I could smell my own bad breath this past week during my pre-op liquid diet. How gross is that!!!:omg:

I think it may be from coming off carbs. I remember reading something about that in the Atkins book from way back. Something about keyetones . Drinking lots is supposed to help. I know that doesn't help much right after surgery.

thanks for the well wishes. I am headed to the hospital for 7 a.m tomorrow. a bit nervous. I will be in touch after.

Take care and good luck to all who will go in the next couple of days. We're in this together

Lol Crispy every morning when I wake up my husband has to open the window to let in some fresh air as my mouth is rank......I am 8 days out on liquids and sometimes thick near mushie liquid but am having no problem whatsoever, still sore and tender and above the port incision felt like it was burning and very hot so last night put and ice pak on it and this morning not so bad will ice it again today. I have lost 5kgs since op and feeling it in my body especially my face my skin is so soft which is amazing as I was always very itchy before now only itchy near scars but thats healing I think

I had my surgery on the 12th of October. I did a liquid diet for 12 days prior to surgery. Today is day 19 of liquids. It's through the grace of God that I'm still doing great on the liquids. So far, as of today, weighing in at my doctors office, I have lost 20 pounds. How awesome is that.

My surgery only took 36 minutes. I've got some gas, but not much. Pretty much no abdominal pain - no port pain.

What a blessing.

Hello October Bandees!

I have a question for the early bandees, does anyone who was banded at the beginning of the month still have pain? I do. I am assuming this is normal.

What sort of pains are you having? If you are worried, call your doctor.

I still have a little tenderness around my port area, but no real pain anywhere. Last night I even slept on the port side for several hours, although it hurt a bit once I woke up and moved off it.

My gas pains took about 2 weeks to go away, although I suspect that some of the last few days of that could also have just been a stiff / sore back from not having done much since surgery.

My port site is not quite healed yet, and all of my surgery sites still get itchy. I can start putting BioOil / Vit E oil onto them over the weekend, so that should help.

Suggest you clean your wounds gently with sterile Water / alcohol wipe or similar, and replace the bandages with steristrips (3M make them, ask your pharmacist) for a week or so. Put the steristrips on so that they run perpendicular to the wounds. They will provide some support to help hold the newly knitting wounds together, yet still keep the wound clean and allow it to breathe and dry out.

If your wounds are infected (inflamed, oozing, etc), or you are at all worried about them, go and see your local doctor.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
