Well I Made It On The Loser's Bench!

Recommended Posts

Surgery went well yesterday. I was disharged today and I'm so happy to be home. I am in some pain but the pain meds are helpful. I'm also havng trouble getting comfortable because of the stomach pain. I haven't been able to get down much Water but I have been sipping here and there. I did eat a sugar free popsicle today. I can't believe I'm Post Op day 1. I'm really proud of myself for going through with the procedure. You all have helped me get through this and I wouldn't have been able to do it without my VSG family! I wish everyone much success and I'm sending prayers and blessing to u all;-)

Congrats of becoming a Sleever :). It was hard for me to get comfortable especially on my left side - that the side my doctor said he removed my stomach from one of the incisions.

It will get better. As for the Water, just continue to sip sip sip sip as much as you can, no need to force it. Those SF popsicles are great, I keep at least 2 boxes of them in the freezer.

We all need to be really proud, this is a huge commitment to our health. I'm day four. I found if I sit up really straight or even stretch a little everything gowns down more easily! Be strong!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
