I'm 55 And Had My Sleeve Done On August 8

Recommended Posts

Hey all you fifties folks! I had my sleeve on Friday, September 21st. I was in the hospital two nights in Dallas and my son and niece drove me home yesterday - a six hour trip. We stopped every hour and I walked around the parking lots and I made the trip fine. Yesterday I had a little trouble getting my Protein in but today I've already got it done! Now I can just focus on my water! I love drinking Water anyway and it has been somewhat difficult to get used to the sipping. I am so excited about this whole deal and can't wait to get on "mooshies". The time is going so fast it won't be long. Oh, by the way, I'm down 6 pounds today! It's just getting better! I love this site.

Hi sastexan4u!

Seems this thread has been dormant since Sept, so it was nice to see another fabulous 50 something person posting! Since I went to the WLS seminar, I felt I was the oldest person considering this procedure! I'm 53 & have just gotten started. I will be doing my blood work this Saturday & Monday is my psych eval.

How are you doing since your surgery? I'm not going to lie, I'm scared....

Thank you for your encouragement sastexan! Lord knows what that psych will pull out of me! I have lots of baggage in my head & heart! :( I did ask about group therapy & they do have that in the program I chose, so I'm sure I'll be going!

Good luck to you too!

Congrats on making the decision to change your life!!! I was sleeved on August 17, 2012. I thought 52 was too old but decided I wanted to enjoy the rest of my life getting out and about without fear and pain, my knees and body hurt all the time. The best decision I made just for me! I have a ways to go and life gets in the way of constant exercise, but I have lost 85 pounds since the surgery. The challenges of day to day issues before the surgery have made these challenges bearable. I put it all in perspective. I can play with my grands without the pains! I am grateful for the new beginning. It will only get better...even with the stalls...ugh;-)

Just take it one day at a time, go to tube there a lot of helpful info; there also..

I'm 51 and I'm a long way from too old to do this! I may not be a spring chicken anymore, but I'm nowhere near a stewing hen ready for the crock pot, either :)

I have a huge part of my life ahead of me, and lots of things I plan to do. I need this to help me get back to a healthier and more active me. I want to beat my husband up the hill on a hike instead of panting my way up behind him, and I can't do it if I'm packing around an extra person. I am not looking for some sort of magic, just the tool to help me get started. I can't wait to join all of you on the losers bench!

Hi, I'm 55 too and will be getting my sleeve surgery next month. I'm excited but worried about the pain factor. Was it painful? :(

For me, it really wasn't painful at all. I was expecting terrible pain but really, it was more painful having kids than this....this was nothing to me. They kept me comfy at the hospital & pain killers at home. I often wonder if I really needed the pain meds, but I just kept taking them at the appropriate time, even if I had no pain, but I didn't want to feel pain...so not sure if I would have if I had not taken the meds. The worst part for me was feeling nausea, & that was caused from the pain meds. Once I was given a prescription for anti nausea meds which I had to take prior to the pain meds, all was well in my world!

Nothing hurt to eat or drink either. So I did accuse my doc of not actually performing that surgery on me! :D But just go slow with everything & pray. All will be well. Good luck to you!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
