Achalasia Heller Myotomy Surgery

I want to up date everyone about my bariatric surgery. I met with my surgeon Dr. Pod yesterday. I told him that it would be my birthday tomorrow and I wanted good news.

I wrote you all about a week ago saying I had Achalasia. My endo. Dr. gave me this info and lead me to think I could not have my bariatric surgery. Well I have good news. I have to have surgery on my esophagus it is called Heller myotomy. Dr. Pod is going to do that surgery and if all goes well he will do the sleeve. If I have a lot of inflammation he will not do the sleeve at that time. I will have to wait 6 to 8 weeks for my esophagus to heal. Please pray that he can do both surgeries at the same time.

I AM SO HAPPY THAT I STILL GET TO HAVE THE SLEEVE.

Thank you all for your support, you are wonderful!

I also have Achalasia and was diagnosed in 2010 after loosing 35 pounds in 1 month. 2 weeks later I had the Heller Myotomy in Tampa and it has certainly been a struggle ever since. I'm interested in doing the Vertical Sleeve surgery next month with my husband but am concerned about the Heller Myotomy being an issue. Have you had your surgery yet? The diet for the Heller Myotomy is almost exactly the same for the sleeve so that will certainly make it easier. Can you tell me what your doctor said about any complications you might have or if you will experience any acid issues with the sleeve? Thanks and good luck! I'm curious to find out if anyone else who has Achalasia has done the sleeve and what the results were.

Sorry I haven't gotten back with you sooner, I have been sick. I haven't had my surgery yet. I don't know if there will be any complication after the Heller Myotomy. I will ask the next time I talk to Dr. Pod. I would like to hear about your Heler Myotomy surgery. You said you are having problems with acid. I am having problems with acid now. I have to sleep with my bed very elevated. Some of the acid got into my lungs about 3 weeks ago. I got very sick with pneumonia. I am hoping the surgery will take care of that. I would like to discuss this with you some more! Would you like to email me at: kweenbee@cox.net I don't think you will be any problem having the sleeve. I will say a prayer for you and I wish you the best of luck.
