I have lived in Latin America close to four years. I would say I am a decent Spanish speaker and I understand much better than I speak. My surgeon here has all the same requirements of surgeons stateside. So today I had my psych eval and it was in Spanish. I am patting myself on the back that I can communicate well enough with the Doctor for him to determine I am mentally ready for my surgery. The convo did get heavy and he made me so comfortable. I know a lot of people speak more than one language, but it has not been easy living and adapting in a totally Spanish world. I feel accomplished that today is my last mandatory appt and even more so that it was in Spanish.
