I'm thrilled with the 16 pounds I've lost since my surgery 4 days ago, but in a sense I'm starting to think, "I messed up by doing this, I ruined my life". I know that I'm still under a week post-op and the full liquid stage is miserable but does it truly get better like I've been told? Do you ever feel normal again with the only difference that you lost a lot of weight and can't eat as much as you used to? I've been kind of sulking all day because I'm still gassy, I don't have much energy, and the liquids are boring. I'm so afraid that I'll feel this way the rest if my life and I won't get to enjoy life itself. It seems like all I'm doing is worrying about getting enough fluids and Protein in. Any encouragement would be great, I'm in a funk :/

I felt this way too, but it does get better. Everyone calls this a journey, consider this part of the road where its a little rocky and nothing to look at.

I just want to cry because I don't want the rest of my life to revolve around counting calories and dieting. It seems like I'm going to be on a diet for the rest of my life.

I think it's totally normal to feel the way you do . I mean life as u know it it's gone for now . I'm having surgery 8/17 and I'm petrified . I know the way u feel it's exactly how I'm going to feel, but what u have to think is this is what u wanted and it's temporarily . Give god thanks that everything came out well and u loosing so much weight already. Now focus on looking urself in the mirrors and think about new clothes pretty soon . That should help!!! Feel better soon ;)

I had surgery two months ago. I felt exactly as you did. Eating and drinking were a CHORE. (well at that point, drinking and trying to find some way of putting Protein into a palatable liquid form) I kept thinking, what have I done to myself? I found that once I was busy again (and felt well enough to be busy) it helped a lot. Now that I am able to eat real food again, it has gotten much easier. I still struggle a bit to find things that I can eat that I like and make sure I am getting all my Protein (which I honestly do not count and measure as I should) but it is not a constant focus any more. I feel life is almost completely normal now. The only difference now is that I am down 51 pounds since pre-op diet and surgery and food is not a constant monkey on my back any more.

Hang in there. It gets way better. I found looking at peope's before and after photos, reading topics like six month and one year sleevaversary really helped. There is a light at the end of the tunnel!!

I haven't been sleeved yet; however, that has always been a concern of mine too - regretting it. I think after your body heals and acclimates to the limited amount of calories, you will be on the upswing. I do hear that months/years out you can eat a normal size meal, for example:

3 oz. of Protein

1/2 cup of veggies

2-3 bites of a starch

I hear it gets better - hang in there - congrats on the weight loss, so far and keep it up and keep us posted! :)

I felt like you do, but most of your situation is temporary. You should, however, be on a diet the rest of your life. The sleeve is a tool, the diet and exercise are what will help you lose weight and keep it off for a healthier you. I hope you had nutrition classes and that they covered the lifetime diet.

I will be 5 months post op on the 6th, and yesterday I really cheated and ate a small 5 Guys hamburger with four or five fries for lunch.

I didn't eat all of the bun, but otherwise, I ate the whole burger.

I was full, it tasted pretty good, and settled fine with me. By dinner, I was back on track and had a Protein Shake.

I know I won't do that all of the time, but bottom line is that you will feel mostly "normal" sooner than you think.

Today, I remember that "normal" got me to 238 pounds, and I'm grateful to be less than "normal" now; but not freakishly focused on food and liquids as I was right after surgery. It is totally live-able once you heal.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
