I had to have Protein before I even left the hospital. It is crucial to the healing of your wound. I had to get in 60 g of it starting at day 1 post op.

I'm 3 days post op. First two days were clear fluids only. Since being discharged yesterday my doctor has advised me to start a high Protein liquid diet. As user above said, the high protein assists wound healing, builds immunity against infections and helps to keep lean muscle mass. Mind you being day 3 post op, I cannot achieve 49-50grams of protein per day as I am only drinking 600ml of liquid.< /p>

i wasn’t allowed to do shakes for 2 weeks (so week 3) but I was allowed week 2 to take the pro slams they look like test tubes with lids they are like juice Protein I wasn’t told to make sure I got all my protein from them just that I could sip at one as part of the Fluid intake.

I was Clear Liquids first week and did starting my clear Proteins like Isopure and BariWise. If you follow any of my posts you will see a lot of Bariwise products.they have been great for me and have been crucial to getting my Protein in. Feel free to contact me if you want reviews on what I've tried. I went to full! Liquid week 2. More shakes and stuff.

I also was required to start on my Protein on day 3. I did shakes like Premier Protein that you can get at costco, Pure Protein in a can that I got from Vitamin Shoppe and Unjury Protein Powder. Also, I purchased the Unjury chicken broth which was a great change from the sweet tasting stuff. Its very important to get in that protein because it helps with your healing and it counts towards the liquid you need to get each day.

If Protein Shakes are not what they want you to be drinking yet, I would suggest clear Protein drinks like Isopure, Green Tea with Lemon, Grape, Orange, fruit Punch, berry etc. It's a clear (see through) not heavy like the shakes. They don't taste the greatest, but one bottle has 40 grams of protein, and you don't have to drink the entire bottle just try to get in a little at a time in between your Water. The Unjury chicken broth like Karen says is a clear protein. I am not sure if Syntrax Nectar is considered "clear", you can get this at the Vitamin Shoppe or by calling Syntrax directly. (It's cheaper through Vitamin Shoppe). They have flavors like Fuzzy Navel which is a powder you mix with water.

Best of luck to you.

They started me on Protein Shakes on day 2. I currently am 10 days post-op and just now able to get two 11 oz Premier Protein shakes in. A lot of dr will tell you to focus on hydration for the first week and then move your focus to adding Protein in week 2.

Just take it easy and sip, sip, sip! You will be able to build up to it. Also, if you have questions give your NUT or surgeon a call for clairifaction.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
