Recommended Posts

my incisions were glued

Mine were glued as well except for the biggest incision that was stitched. I would have welcomed staples though because I had an allergic reaction to the glue and it made my skin very itchy & slow healing.

Mine were glued but sutured inside 7 months ago I know where all 6 holes were but can only see 2 and those just barley. Staples Will leave marks and are prone to infection. Staples work but wouldn't you want a surgeon who takes every precaution so your recovery is trouble free?

I had 6 tiny incisions. I had the staples as well. They didn't hurt at all when removed.

Thanks for all the input, it has all been helpful. Just been curious what I'm facing when I go toy follow up appointment and the staples get removed. I have total faith in my surgeon.

I also had six incisions. I was a little nervous to get my staples removed but they did not hurt at all. Good luck with surgery next week.

Good luck. I had STITCHES! lol. I thought they were going to hurt badly but they ended up not hurting at all. A minor annoyance. I'm betting the staples aren't much worse. I've heard of your Doctor and he's done a lot of sleeves. I am sure you're in good hands. Best wishes!

I had three teenie tiny holes in my abdomen. No external staples. I do have staples on my stomach that are oversewed and permanent. The holes in my abdomen (one in my navel, one on the left hip area and one on the right hip area) all healed without incident and I have no scarring. I hope this helps.

I was sleeved on Tuesday, also by Dr. Kim, and go for followup/staple removal next Wednesday. I'll try to remember to tell you what it is like. So far recovery is going pretty well. Good luck to you!

Mine didn’t hurt my mum took them out when it was time as they give you the staple removers to take to the nurse at the gp to do so she just did it instead day after they were due out.

The removers work in a way that it pushed the middle flat part of the staple into like a v which pops the sides up then you gently pull up and they come out so the whole staple looks like a m.

As long as they are clean and not oozing or anything it should be just slight tugging and maybe a pin prick sensation when coming out.

My mum was a trained nurse years ago so I was more than ok with her removing mine (it really is easy anyway) and not taking the trip to the gp and wasting a appointment slot someone else can have.

Mine did not require sutures or staples, they used steri-strips to close the wounds. However, I had a C-section and they did staples to close that incision. They do not hurt when they are taken out.

Hope all goes well.

I recently had 4 stitches put in the tip of my finger to close up an open fracture. Also had stitches in my knee after knee surgery. And had them after a breast reduction (was a 36f or larger at 17, but had to buy 38ddd as that size was hard to find) and I hate getting stitches removed. To me it hurts. I would welcome strips or staples or hell even Elmer's. LoL!!! Just not a fan of stitches. But it will be worth it after surgery. :-)

I'm a surgeon. Staples are absolutely a fine option compared to sutures, and they shouldn't hurt coming out but may pinch a tiny bit. When I am a patient I will have no preference. Sutures may leave a tiny bit less scar, and staples shorten time in the or by a tiny bit (negligible on both accounts) . Both are good options. Good luck!

I had laparoscopic and 6 spots, 2 had staples, I didn't think they bothered me until they were gone then I realized they were tugging a little once they were gone, they didn't hurt coming out and it was easier getting in the truck after they were out!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
