Fills available in Canada

Hi there, I am wondering if you can advise of a Canadian Dr. who will do a fill for me. I had a great Mexican experience with Dr. Ortiz in his Tijuana clinic. I would prefer to find someone in or near Edmonton due to time frame and my work schedule. Hope someone can post info.

Thanks

The lapband surgeons in Edmonton do not do bands on a "private" basis. (Just through the "program" and it's covered by Alberta Health Care.) I have heard from other people that they have had trouble getting fills in Edmonton and Red Deer.

I certainly hope I'm wrong. Please let us know if you have any luck.:couch2:

*crossing fingers*

I live north of Edmonton as well and I just had a fill done by a radiologist in Grande Prairie. I was the first one he's ever done. Drinking the barium isn't that pleasant especially when I know that a fill is about a 30 second procedure with the docs in Toronto but it sure beats spending all that money travelling. If you want any more info let me know.

AlbertaDeb,

Yes please give me the info, incase this Edmonton thing dosen't happen, I travel alot and I would like to have as much info as possible. I never know where I may be so it would be nice to make an appointment in the general direction I am going. Thanks

Tiger,

The radiologist's name is Dr. Jim in Grande Prairie. I had to be referred by my family doc and there was a 2 - 3 month waiting period because I believe it's thru AHC. Now that he has done the procedure on me, I will have a standing order at the hospital for the next one and won't have to do the referral thing again. Hope this helps.

Deb, you're lucky! Fills like that, most of us can only dream of!! LOL Seriously... it's a good thing. You should have seen the bruise I got from all the port-pushing and prodding during my last fill. And he can see if anything looks 'off' (or at least send a pic to your surgeon to look at, if you suspect something)

Do you have to pay for the fills by him?

:couch2:

Hello Mandi

Thanks for the info. The woman in dauphin

Did she get a new band ? I wonder who is doing her fills now? Are you in touch w/ her? I probably would not want to see the doc that made a boo boo.

I have booked flight to Toronto for Nov , since TLBC books the first fill 6 weeks after surgery.

I am going be spend a great deal of time in Mexico this winter:biggrin1: so I guess I do the reverse of every one else and get my fills there!!!!!

Thanks mandi and all the others for all you help and info!!!

5 days till I begin my pre-op diet! Oh my gawd I think I 'm going to puke I just realized my surgery is 15 days away :couch2:

I haven't had to pay so far, I think it may be thru AHC because I was referred by my doc but honestly, I don't care. It would still be cheaper and more convenient than having to fly to Toronto!

Deb

Hey Lila, Don't be nervous, Be excited!!!!! I know, thats easy for me to say. I was nervous too, but I would do it again, in a heartbeat! Just get excited, it's gonna be great!!!!!

Hey Lila chin up you are starting off on an adventure, you will be absolutely amazed at the recovery, I find it hard to believe I had no discomfort, and so much to gain sorry to lose. All the best

Thank you everyone for your good wishes.

I hope I recover quickly. I had a breast lift March 05 and I went out for dinner the same nite!

I didn't take any days off after my lap band surgery. (Office/retail setting ).so I am crossing my fingers that I'll be good to go!

4 days till I start the pre-op diet eeeek!!!

I went to Dr.Mitchell yesterday for my first fill. He charges 100.00. He's very funny and a really nice man. He missed the first try but got my port on the second. He's new to this procedure but he's a bariatric specialist so he seems to be pretty compassionate about his patients. I've had horrific experiences with Doctors so I was really nervous but he totally put me at ease.

Just for the record, I did manage to get a referral from my Dr. to see Dr. Jim. My Dr. spoke to him directly and he made it quite clear he has no intention of doing fills any more.:think

Deb, you're a lucky lucky girl!

..and Tiger, did you have any luck in Edmonton?
