How Many Times A Day....

Recommended Posts

Should I be eating?

Generally speaking... Breakfast, lunch and dinner and a mid morning Protein snack and an afternoon Protein snack.

I eat exactly what Dooter posted. Well, I try to. dinner has become quite challenging.

Breakfast, am snack, lunch, pm snack, dinner if I can.

Same as the others - NUT and surgeon recommended the same. Sometimes, if I'm under my Protein goal (~80g), I throw in another Protein Shake in the evening. Not sure if that's a bad plan or not, and would be interested in what others think.

My NUT wants me at 800 - 900 calories regardless of how many times I have to eat to get there (I still haven't been able to make it that high).

My surgeon/PA want me to focus on getting about 1000 calories in three distinct meals spread throughout the day.

I have a lot of restriction. I've been told to expect that it won't change much. If it doesn't, I will have to continue Snacks to reach anything resembling either of those calorie goals, if I ever can. With just 3 meals, and not doing well with dinner, I'd probably get in the range of 450 calories on a good day.

It depends on your doctor. Mine only wants 3 meals & no Snacks, but I can have Protein Drinks or Water in between meals. I'm supposed to be between 800-1100 calories a day.

Mine only wants me to eat 3 times as well, but I usually have a snack or two depending on how hungry I am. Sometimes I split my lunch and eat half later.

How do you get in that many calories eating only 3 times a day? Are you a ways out?

What's an example of a "snack?" what's an example of a "meal?"

All of my meals seem snack-like these days...

I'm right there with you. There was a lady at my lunch table who doesn't know about my surgery. When I put my food away today she asked me if I was done. I said yes. She then proceeded to ask me if I didn't like it. I told her I loved it but I was full and she commented that I had barely eaten anything. I just left it at that.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
