Recommended Posts

I'm glad you had a great experience! My surgery was 6 weeks ago with Dr. Kelly. I had a great experience and healed up well. Omar rocks. He seriously needs a fan page, lol.

I just read your blog and I've officially made up my mind. Kelly & his team. Thank you for taking the stress and not knowing what to expect out of the equation. Your pictures helped alot.

Not sure if i missed it but didyou do the barium swallow and get pictures to take home to your doctor?

I will speak to Omar next week and put a rush on my passport.

Thank you!!!!!!!!

Not trying to step on toes, but yes, you get the swallow test, chest xray, plus blood panel to take home to your pcp, Omar even videos the barium swallow and immediately emails it to you! Now thats service!

And I asked him about a video of the surgery. He told me to bring a memory card, and they will.

He said a USB/memory stick. I got a 16gb. I think that should be enough!

I DO want to see it. I'm in the medical field, and I want to see how much fat is in there lol!!! I watch surgeries and medical chanels a lot on tv a lot. I should have been a doctor, I guess.

Also, I think it would be a good thing, should I have a problem, I can show my pcp what was done.

now this is getting interesting. i like the idea of having a video of my surgery. don't know that i could watch it but...it would be tempting. especially if it was AFTER it was done. hmmmm

i'm getting excited. texted Omar not expecting to hear from him today since its his day off. he texted back, told me my date that i want was free and told me i don't need to rush and get a passport. just need my birth certificate and drivers license. one less thing i need to worry about.

now i need to figure out how to begin to get ready. approx. 6 weeks out.

1. need to stop my caffeine addiction.

2. once caffeine is beat i need to beat the diet soda addiction.

i don't smoke. not sure what else i should be doing to prepare. any ideas?

Yes, I did do the swallow/leak test on the 2nd day after surgery & got films of all of that to bring home to my Dr. Also all the blood test results to bring home to my Dr too!

So glad you made the decision to go with Dr Kelly. You will love him & his team!

I also was a caffeine junky! I woke up to 2 or 3 cups of coffee, then drank diet coke ALL day!

I just quit cold turkey & it wasn't too bad.

Now I don't miss it too much... gotten used to drinking my flavored water!

Decided not to quite go cold turkey. Usually start with a large McDonalds diet coke in the am and then a couple of sodas throughout the day, ending with sweet tea at home with dinner. Yep. hurts to say it.

Anyway, got a medium diet coke this morning and 4 bottles of Water so I could accurately count my Water. I'm only down 1 bottle and I'm alrady feeling ill. haven't even got to the future headache yet. don't know why plain water makes me feel so damn ill. going to the store to get flavored add ins. Hoping to make it so I appreciate 1 diet coke a day for now and caffeine free in the evenings for a week or two.

Yeah, I have to add flavors to my Water most of the time. I like the Mio flavorings, they even have one that is sweet tea flavor!

You will find them next to the powdered drink mixes.

I was sleeved by Dr. Kelly last month. I flew into San Diego the day before my surgery. Dr. Kelly's wife' date=' Cece picked me up at the airport and took me to the hospital. I stayed in the hospital the night before and the two nights after surgery. Then I spent two nights in the hotel. I actually had a great time! We saw Dr. Kelly usually twice a day, so he is always available to talk to. He took us out to dinner on Saturday night with his family (broth for us!)

I can't recommend him highly enough.[/quote']

Agreed! I got there with Jen (one of two of my sleeve sisters) and my experience was amazing. In fact were all planning on a mini reunion come October! Can't wait to see them again!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
