i think it depends on your surgeon. my date is July 18 and i will have my drain in for a week. also my surgeon places the drain in the far left incision which is the incision which hurts the worst and takes longer to heal because the bigger camera goes in that incision. she gave me a lot of informative information during my pre-op/pretesting visit.

Yep, totally depends on the surgeon so you'll need to ask. Mine comes out before leaving the hospital as well, but I've seen up to 2 weeks from others here.

I think it depends not only on the surgeon but also on how much you are draining. My Doctor usually leaves the drain in until your 1 week post op visit but in my case I only drained on the 1st day and had nothing coming out of the drain by day 2 and 3 so he removed it in the hospital. You should ask your sugeon what his normal practice is.

The drain was never mentioned to me. I only heard about it on this forum. So I decided to call my surgeon and he said he does not use drains whatsoever. I agree with the previous post that it's your doctors preference.

Just so you know, my surgeon left mine in for 10 days. Unknowingly I developed an abscess down the drain line. I was obsessed with keeping it clean with antibacterial soap etc but, it did not matter. I had to have emergency surgery 4 days after they removed it. They had to remove tissue from my stomach, the infection did not pass through my paretenial cavity, thank God. Today my doctor prescribes antibiotics before surgery AND the drains are only left in for 3 days max.

Just so you know things can happen, for me even with the complication...I would do it again in a heartbeat. I love my life today, I hit onederland this morning and feel fantastic!

Good luck to you, stay the course and you will do well.

Y'all need to realize all docs are different! Mine should be taken out Tuesday (which will be 8 days post op) but still has some drainage coming out! I guess they use at as a gauge! And it's not uncomfy just annoying!

Vix,

My Surgeon was Dr. Khran as well! I had surgery on 6/12. They scheduled me to have my drain removed on 6/28. I called about a week early and asked to have it out. I went in for an appt and they determined that they could take it out. I think it was scheduled so far out because they had weight loss conference thing in San Diego the prior week. I just happened to call when Davina had returned from the conference.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
