3 Days Post Op And Can't Keep Anything Down! Help

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery Monday July 2nd and haven't been able to keep anything down. The nausea is so bad that as soon as liquid hits my stomach, it comes right back up. I'm getting weak and light headed and have the shakes. Has anyone else had this problem?

I had my surgery on Monday as well. I had some nauseau but it passed and I am able to keep the liquids down. I am following a suggestion that I read on another post where I squeeze the air out of my jaws before I swallow and it helps not to gulp down too much air. I hope and pray things get better!

I am 2 months out. I kept NOTHING down til day 4. Just keep sipping slowly. Try changing what you are sipping. By adding ice, drink at room temp, try some warm broth. Eventually you will find something that will work. Hang in there. It keeps getting better.

The day after my surgery I was taken down for a leak test. During the test they discovered my stomach lining was so inflamed nothing could pass through....leading to extreme nausea an vomiting. My surgeon replaced my NG tube, and kept me NPO for an additional 4 days, to give time for the inflammation to resolve. When the NG tube was finally removed, I was able to easily keep down sips of Water, and progressed quickly from there. I'm very grateful that my surgeon is as conservative as he is...keeping me in the hospital long enough to truly be well enough to go home. I've been amazed by some of the stories on this site....people going home after only one night in the hospital!! It seems there are a lot of programs that rush people (and their sleeves), leaving them to have experiences, and worries, like those you're having. I wish you all the best in your recovery!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
