I lost 20 lbs pre-op and 30 post-op. I'm just about 5 weeks out. I was 100 lbs overweight going in. I did this to lose weight but mostly in improve my medical condtions. My diabetes disappeared in the hospital. My sleep apnea is slowing disappearing. My blood pressure meds have been cut by 2/3.

I've been cold since day 3 of my surgery. I was the guy that could sit on the ice all day with no gloves on, no hat and enjoy a balmy 30 degree day. Now I'm wearing long underwear, sweaters and still cold. Last nite I had the stove going and it was 86 in the living room and I had to have a blanket on.
Sleeve surgery has turned me into a wuss. LOL

I just needed to vent. If I didn't tell her and she found out that I told somebody else and not her she would get bent out of shape -so I tell her and she gets bent out of shape. Yes, the God made you that way so deal with it argument is like the guy on the desert isle that ignores the boat, plane and helicopter because he knows God will save him. He dies and then God says, "come on!, I sent a boat, a plane ..."
The interesting thing is that I really don't care if she's supportive or not. I've got plenty of that from my husband, my daughter and you all I expected her reaction, but it irritates me all the same.
Basically, I know me. I've had to major abdominal surgeries (C-section and fibroids) and I basically want to be left alone. My mother will not understand and will take it personally no matter how well I explain it.
Dee, I like your style. I will smile and nod a lot.

I never told my mom about my surgery till like five months post-op (or anyone in my family actually). I didn't have any reason to think she'd be negative or unsupportive, I just didn't want to get everyone's opinions about my body and my choices for that body.
The God-made-it-that-way argument strikes me as absurd, so I would just ignore that one. Frankly, I would ignore her in general. Just nod and smile and agree with her that no one knows trouble and sorrow like she does and then...change the subject gracefully.
    Good luck!

The shakes will go right through you pretty fast. The denser Proteins will sit in your stomach much longer. My surgeon wants us off the shakes and getting protein from foods as soon as possible. When I mentioned that I occasionally still have a protein shake for Breakfast at almost six months, she was a little annoyed. I still do it anyway because I can make really tasty ones. I don't sip on them throughout the day because I like them fresh out of the blender and cold.
The reason for getting on regular foods is that the protein shakes really do not give you everything you need nutritionally (certain amino acids, Vitamins, minerals and fiber) and for the fact that we basically should be not on a liquid diet for long.
I eat tri tip, ribeye, sirloin, fillet mignon, turkey, chicken, ahi tuna, white fish, shellfish, pork, cheese, Greek yogurt, beans and nuts for protein. I don't like lamb or organ meats. Quinoa is a high protein grain I eat. Lots of calories and carbs, so a 1/4 cup serving usually does it. Treat it like couscous and add feta and cranberries or whatever.

I loved carbs and fats -- breads of all kinds, pizza, pasta, french fries, etc. I rarely crave these things anymore. I'm 16-weeks post op and can eat what I want but I seem to WANT lean protein and, if there is room, veggies. However, I have also used alternatives to meet the needs if they arise -- I keep Eat-Rite Pizzas in my freezer which are high protein/low carb soy based pizzas that taste very good. I have low-carb bagels and bread in the freezer. I have a supply of bariatricchoice.com foods in my pantry such as cheesy-mac pasta, choco-lite candy bars, biscotti cookies and a few other things so that mentally I know I can capture the flavor when/if I am craving it. If out and about and I smell pizza, I think "I can have that when I get home." Most times, I don't have it when I get home, but just having that safety net has kept me on track.

3 days post op for me as well. Sipping has become much easier, had very little vomiting the first 24 hours. Now I am not feeling much pain, have more energy. Have you had any complications of symptoms that made you worry?
