Help... Gaining Weight Back

Recommended Posts

So I started off weighing 324, then after pre op diet I weighed 307 at surgery on 4/30. It's been a little over 2 months and I got down to 263 and now I'm gaining it back because I now weigh 266. It's not that time of the month and I average about 800-900 calories a day. What is wrong?

Are you getting your waters in? It was a full moon the last few days and I always weigh more. I am not big into astrology, but I have always had Water retention during right before and after the full moon.

I was 208.2 for a few days and yesterday I hopped on the scale and I was 211. I had 450 calories the day before and I pretty much exercised all my calories away. I got on the scale today and I'm 207.4. Could be a little Constipation, could be Water weight gain, too much sodium, your body holding onto calories because the meals weren't paced (6 little meals) and you may have had 2 medium/bigger meals and your body decided to hold onto the weight.

Change things up a little, add some extra carbs and do a little more exercise, or revert and go two days of full liquids, 3 shakes and sugar-free popsicles etc. Sometimes these weird things happen to women for weird reasons.

Sometimes it is just the retention of Water in the body that fluctuates. You are not gaining fat at that calorie level. Sometimes if we eat something that is salty - or for me asian food with soy sauce - it will show on the scale and I just have to patient and let my body release the Fluid. I have been a slow but steady loser, and my body even before surgery lost the same way, I would hold on to the excess weight for a week and then lose 2-5 all at once. Over and over, I can't rush the way my body loses, but overall I feel so much better 70 pounds lighter. Don't get overly concerned, just stay with what you are doing and it will happen.

I'm the same way - had surgery on April 17th this year. i have been stuck between 222 and 224 for over a week now. Very frustrating!!! But as Mina T says above, this has been the story for me. i lose about 5 pounds, then gain some back and then lose again. It's a yo yo but at least it's not a lot to gain. I don't know how people CAN gain much since we can't hardly eat anything.

I'm going to just keep hoping for the best and eat the things I should!!!

Hi guys I have the same problem. I can't get out the 200's. I was 204 went up to 208 back down to 206 . My nut told me to raise my calories to 1200. I was only doing between 800 - 1000. I don't eat a lot of starches or breads so I can't figure out what is wrong

I am two weeks today post- op. I have not lost another pound in a week now. was down 16 the first week, and now I'm up 4-5 pds, following everything to the T, and I'm very frustrated. I haven't been exercizing yet because everytime I get up and walk around, I start to feel like crap, and everytime after I eat I get a headache, I don't know why?!? I have been so agitated lately, and feel like I didn't have the sleeve because I'm not losing. Is this normal? It's not that I'm sitting around all the time, but I'm not doing a whole bunch. If I get a boost of energy, then I'm up doing stuff. I have been waiting for that boost of energy that my Dr. said we would get after a week 1/2...I just hope that this works or I'll be so upset!!

I'm 7 weeks post - op and I thought I was at a stall until I hopped on the scale tonight and I'm up 3lbs. No Bueno! I blame me starting regular food. Although I hated it I did better with a limited amount of food I can eat.

I gotta shake this because it's messing with my head. I'm currently 408 starting weight was 448. Before gain I was 405 and excited to leave the 400's for good. Why can't I escape and get to the 300's?

I've had the same problem the past two weeks. Got down to 197 as my lowest, but slowly crept back up to 199 over the course of the week. All of a sudden, popped back on the scale and it said 201! I never wanted to be in the 200s ever again!

Funny thing is, after the 201 reading, I had a nightmare that I gained until I got to 248. It's not my highest weight, but I never want to go back! In my dream, I was wearing the clothes I can wear now, and they were ripping and falling off because they got too tight! It was horrid. :(

Luckily, I got back down to 199 again, though I'm hoping to get down to another low!

Edit: It's not my TOM either. I have been drinking TONS of Water (when it gets to over 105 degrees, you tend to get thirsty!) but haven't been eating much because I've been focused on work and school. Maybe that's why?

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
