...they may just surprise you! I felt pretty strongly about not telling much of anyone outside of my very closest friends and immediate family. As I began to go through the classes and jump through the various hoops, the net was cast wider and wider. I didn't exactly rent a billboard, but I definitely told way more people than I intended. I'm still pre-op, so basically, I just sent an email letting them know I'm having surgery, when it is, and simply asked for their prayers and support during the process.
The response has been OVERWHELMINGLY positive. They've all seen me struggle while actively trying to lose weight. Everyone is happy for me and offering all sorts of support. So, yeah, there are plenty of ignorant people who will have ridiculously dumb things to say about our decision but I'm willing to bet that there will be more that will be in your corner and waiting to help and support you in any way they can.
I'm not trying to convince anyone to do anything they don't want. I just know that it was a bit stressful for me to think of all of the judgement and possibly not having the support of those around me. Basically, I was worried for nothing! Just wanted to share....
