I had surgery last friday. And as of two days ago im back in the hospital do to dehydration. I was trying to keep up with fluids and had a huge bottle of Water next to me sipping as often as I could but it just wasnt enough. But they also are observing how.much im eating. Im not sure if it was normal but due to severe paon when eating r drinking protien shakes I focused more on liqueds so they are also keeping me until I.can get more food down. Has anyone had pain when swallowing, where when the food hit your stomach it felt like you were punched and you could hardly breath,? it last's maybe a few seconds but it is enough to scare me from eating. Is this normal or maybe my sleeve is to tight? Advice plz! I wanna go home!

I had surgery on June 4th and I'm still only allowed liquids. The first time I tried to cheat and eat instant mashed potatoes the pain was so horrendous it felt like someone punched me and I couldn't breath.

You are already on real food???

Are you drinking liquids out of the Water bottle? I can't and I'm almost 4 weeks out . Water bottles make me pull in too much air. I was given one ounce cups to drink out. I guarantee you if you try sipping out of a cup instead of sipping out of a water bottle it will help you immensely.

What is it that you are having issues with? Water in general or shakes but you said food....what is the food? I would only try one teaspoon of sugar-free Jello at a time. Try sugar-free popsicles.

Sending you my prayers.

Yes! I had the exact same pain for about 3 weeks post op. Eventually, it will get better. It was worse when I drank cold things. I would keep my Water at room temp. I also started mixing Gatoraid G2 in with my water and that is what saved me. It help so much to keep me hydrated. Try that when you get home. I hope you feel better soon. It will go away but I know that doesn't ease the pain now. It hurt terribly! God Bless!

I think I will be making a return trip to the hospital monday....I've been having serve pain on my left side now....it started all over, but now its mainly around my left should on down the left side of my adomen...and then there are the fevers....between 100-103 for the last 4 days...have to take tylenol to break them through sweating them out....I dont have any issues eating my food, my problem is that most of the Protein around me right now is NASTY, and I'm not motivated to drink it....plus I dont have a motivation to eat anything period, not many food thoughts, but not hungry....

I really dont want to go back to the hospital...

I thought they were pain, nausea and fever but I am not 100%. If he did a test, hopefully you are safe. :)

You need to get checked out - fever and pain is not good. My Doctor required that I call him right away if I was having any fever with pain.

I agree with Karen.....get yourself checked out as soon as possible. What you said about the fevers and the sweats makes me think you might have an infection. There's always a risk of infection with any surgery. Please keep us posted on your situation!

My doctor advances you to mushies two days out. I wasn't ready, so I pushed myself back a week. I have been eating for several days now...

Get to the ER! My main symptom of my leak was left shoulder pain! I am not sure an xray can even see a leak, usually it needs to involve contrast - like an upper GI. Fever and pain are big indicators!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
