If I Burp One More Time.....

Recommended Posts

I was just sleeved a little over a week ago. I'm doing great with getting my liquids in. A straw is my lifesaver for me. I'm already down 23lbs including 7 lost one week pre op. WHOOP! Not bad for a so called light weight. Now here is the problem I have to burp after every sip. I know there will be gas but my god in between every sip????Please tell me I'm not alone. How long does this last. I'm on 40 mg acid reducer.

Your surgeon is letting you use a Straw?? That's a big no-no for mine because of the gas it causes.... I'm wondering if that's what causing your burping.

Yes, my doctor actually is who told me to try it. I had issues the first few days with gulping and the straw helps me avoid that. And I wish it was that simple I started the burping immediately. I even do it eating a popsicle lol

Now that some time has passed, why not try drinking without the straw and see if that helps. Hopefully you don't need the straw any more.

yes, I am also very supprised you can use a straw. My surgeon says NO straws for life!! I know by using straws it can cause alot of bubbles in your sleeve. And maybe thats where some of your burping is coming from. I hope it gets better soon. For me I barley ever burp anymore since the surgery.

Thanks everyone. I hope it passes pretty quickly. I don't feel pain just the need to release some air. I also had to have a hernia repaired I wonder does that make a difference. I talked to my nurse and Dr. they assured me that it will improve just wanted a view from other sleevers. I feel like I'm learning my body all over again.

I Also had a hernia repair and one of my lungs clasped on me too.So I was in some pretty bad pain the first few weeks. then when you have a hernia repair your body' been through alot more stress my dr has even said that your food restriction can be less for awhile from the hernia which in my case has been very true. But don't worrythings will get better.

I'm almost 6 weeks post op and I still burp after every sip of liquid and bite of food and I don't use straws. I know some people 3-6 months out and still burp a lot. If it does get better it may not be as soon as you would like but I'll take burping over obesity any day.

Be thankful you CAN burp!!! My burper broke when I had surgery! I haven't been able to burp since and it can be miserable at times!

I burp SO MUCH post sleeve--still do, at more than a year out. I think it's so tight in there that it's just a necessity. I burp after every sip; happily, they are mostly tiny, silent ones, but yeah, VERY burpy. Wait until you get to the gurgle stage!!

Also, for a lot of sleevers, a big burp, maybe combined with other signals (for me, a runny nose--don't know why) means that you shouldn't take another bite. It's my sleeve's "I'm full" signal, and I have learned to listen to it or else!! Actually, at this point, I can anticipate when that's going to happen, and I stop a couple of bites before that--no longer eat until full, just eat until not hungry any more.

So welcome to the losers' bench, and definitely keep us updated on your progress!!

I am in my 17th week and I still burp after everything I eat and drink and I also had a hernia repair. My Dr. says no to straws as well. I now go by the name of grizzly adams by my family because my burps are so loud and strong...lol Better to burp than to be overweight thats how I look at it.

Keep up the good work you are doing great!

Weeew! I feel so much better now knowing that I am not the only one. It does seem to be slowly improving. Everyone is so supportive on this forum. I can't wait until I'm further along and can possibly help someone else out. :)

I do not have the burping and I was also told NO for life which has been a challenge. I was happy to hear about the nose running signal. I am two weeks old but the last few days with mushies I have the nose running. I will know to stop immediately.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
