This is the furthest I have gotten on this journey. Two other times I gave consideration to having some form of surgery to aid in my weight loss, but back out as I was just not sold on the prospect! This time I guess I got serious.

Who am I? I am 62 years old and on June 1 it the scale at 357 pounds. Not happy with my self. Since then I have had all sorts of evaluations and test and here I ma one month less two days to my surgery point. I WILL NOT BACK OUT!

I have a lot of hopes but I also know this is just a tool and I will control if it works and how well it works. No one else can do that for me! It is not a magic pill; I will not wake up on the 26th 170 pounds lighter.

In order to get ready I started and stopped some things. First my last carbonated drink was on June 1 at 830 am. No more. Next I started to do some (little at first) exercise. Not much mind you I do not want to over do yet!! Then I started some Meal Replacement shakes twice a day with a regular dinner. In two weeks I start the liquid prep diet and I am now ready for that I believe. with these changes I am now down to 340.2 pounds and am ready for the old me to be released by the fat me so I can again begin to enjoy life. My grandkids are going to be so much more fun.

It is interesting my wife and I are starting to have some communications issues that I must address now before they get out of hand. She seems to be distancing herself and I am not sure why. She is planning (and I hope she stays on track) to have the Lap-band three weeks after my surgery. I just hope she continues so we can grow together.

Well more later as I will try and do updates as time permits. Time is flying, I am real busy. I also have an appointment with my normal therapist the Monday before just incase I start have doubts about moving forward. Right now there are none so please pray for me and if I cry out for support give me a quick shout out!

Fred

Hiya Fred, welcome to VST!

Sounds like you really have your plate full ( no pun intended! ) The sleeve is going to change you for the better but you will also change in more ways that just your appearance. None of them are bad, they will all make you a better person.

Keep those communication lines open with your Dear Wife. If she's getting banded then she's going to go through a lot of emotions as well. Just stay open to one another and try your best to unerstand each of you will feel sensitive for some time.

Getting off the sodas is the best thing, good for you. And you WILL be able to enjoy those grandbabies more!

Take care and looking forward to following your journey!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
