My Opinion For Pre-Opers

Recommended Posts

I would like to give anyone out there some info from my experience. I have to do a combo of clear and full liquid diet for one week to shrink my liver and I started it one week in advance for these reasons: I thought I was going to mess up and I wanted to get use to it in advance. I had a lot of low blood sugars and now ( day 5) I've learned how to maintain my sugar and my crankiness and moodiness has gone away. I have kept in touch with my doctor and all is well. So point being, all of u who are worried about pre op being hard, I suggest starting it a little early. Good luck everyone. Susie

My NUT says my pre-op diet should be less than 30gms carbs and over 80gms Protein, but no specifics. I'm concerned I'm not doing it right. Can someone give me more specifis c recommendations? Should I be doing protein shakes/drinks right now?

I drink a scoop of vanilla Protein Shake in my coffee when I wake up , then Water water water, then a can of creamy chicken Soup 98% FF with low sodium chk broth then more water, then another shake and if I'm up to it Jello . I get in 40-70 grams of Protein a day, today I hit 100 grams ! Lol. I worked a 12 hour shift and my protein has 26 grams of protein per scoop. When I'm on the run I grab an Atkins RTD vanilla or chocolate and drink that, but today all I has w me was my powder and i mixed that w coffee to get thru my day . I'll probably do the same tomorrow, another 12 hr day.

I am doing the same thing and so glad I did. It has given me a chance to get ready mentally. The first couple of days were really hard, but it was my choice and I could have a bit to eat if I really needed it to chase away the hungrys. I am ready mentally and physically and I would recommend doing that to everyone. Not to mention the benefit of losing a few extra pounds, which is ALWAYS a good thing, right Martha?!

Day 3 was a little bit better but the hunger headaches are killing me. I was told to not have coffee during my pre op so the coffee is out for me.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
