Question For The Mommies

Recommended Posts

I start my pre-op liquid diet on Wednesday, and my concern is what to feed my family during this time. My hubby's not much of a cook, and is a bit wishy washy on WHAT he wants. So what did you do during this phase? What advice can you give? I don't want to feed them junk, kwim?

By the way, this question is for anyone with families, not just mommies. I tried to change the post title and hit the send button on accident :-).

I just but the bullet and fed them what normally feed them. It was my decision to get sleeved so I didn't feel right making them suffer.

I just cooked them what I normally would. I still cook for them. I know right now it is going to be hard to not want to taste and bite... But you can do it. It's so worth it.

Nothing has changed in my house as far as what the kids eat. I still cook for them the same way as I did before surgery. My cooking wasn't the problem, the problem was what I ate when the kids weren't around!!!

I continue to cook for my family as if nothing is changing. This is the true test for the life style change. You need to be able to make choices and feel good about it. I am now 3 month out and the first month the family ate meals that I had prepared and packed for them. But now I clean and cook like if nothing has change. And make the correct choices for me.

Can you try to cook them things that your not crazy about, so that you don't get so tempted?? So if your kids love Mac m cheese, but your not crazy about them, then cook them that.

We have a different menu, but I still cooked for them. We are eating more nutritious things, like for snack, not ice cream but fruit or yogurt, switched chicken nuggets for homemade grilled chicken and kabobs. Just little changes to get the best food in them that I know how.

I also fed my family the same stuff that I was feeding them before. I agree that this was my choice and they shouldn't suffer because of it. I will admit that cooking during the pre-op diet was very hard for me, but post-op it's not such a big deal...I don't even really want the food!

Good luck JenniJune!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
