Day 9 Post Op... Still Trying To Get Fluids And Protein

Recommended Posts

Hi all... Had my post op visit yesterday. Found out I'm doing great (Yay!), but also found out I have another 12 days on liquids... :(

I've really struggled to barely get 24-32 oz in each day. I've tried the 1 oz cups every 15 minutes but when I try to force myself to drink I vet really nauseous and begin to get chest pains. :(

I know I should mainly be worried about my fluids, but I'm also concerned about lack of Protein. I found these Odwalla drinks at the grocery store today.... Kind of high in calories but 15 grams of protein! I bought 2 just to see if I could manage it and so far so good.

I know I should mainly be worried about my fluids,

Butterflylegacy

As you are still a newbie sleever, drinking liquids/water is super important. 32 ounces+ at this stage of the game is really good.

Eventually you will have to drink 64 oz. a day.- like we all must do. not all of us are successful with that huge amout of drinking - , i'm one that always has to push the liquids.

There are other "crazy" people that can drink 1 gallon, hey you guys, that was said was affection and "jeolousy" ;)

Be more concerned about getting in your fluids so you don't get dehydrated. If you are successful in trying and drinking Protein shakes thats great. But don't worry that much about Protein this early stage in the game. everything will come in its own good time.

Odwalla drink, would like to hear more about it, never heard of

Glad dr. said you are doing great. :)

continued good luck

kathy

Butterfly... I'm 5 days post op, and luckily able to get at least 48 oz down each day (YAY ME!!!). I'm still on Clear Liquids and will "graduate" to full liquids for 2 weeks next Tuesday at my first pre-op appointment.

My office said not to worry about hitting my Protein goals until 3 weeks out when I'm on my pureed diet. That is when I need to aim for my 70 gm of Protein. I hope this helps! You are doing wonderful Sista ;)

I'm 12 days out and I can get about 50 ounces of fluids in and I'm hitting 20-25 of Protein. That's about it. Today I tried a new concoction and got 4 ounces in and was nauseated for the first time since the hospital. I'm going back to clears for the rest of the day, tomorrow I'll go back to trying Protein shake.

I have never had problem taking medication in my life, not Vitamins, not liquid medication, no problems brushing my teeth (I usually brush 3 times or more a day) I floss, I use mouthwash and what happened? Seriously the taste of toothpaste makes me nauseated. I can't handle the taste of cough Syrup, it takes me easily 1/2 or more to get down 2 tylenol cut in 1/2 and my medications. I know I'm not the normal and that other's are progressing faster than me, but having an autoimmune disorder is definitely working against me right now. My husband, son and parents think I'm doing great though for all the issues I have had to deal with, and I'm just going to flow with it. I'm going to try baking soda next because the Sensodyne is not sitting well with me.

I see surgeon for my 2nd visit June 27th and I see the nutritionist on July 9th. Looks like I have 4 more weeks of Pure liquids. I started my liquid diet of 3 shakes a day May 21st for two weeks before surgery June 4th, so I will basically be on liquids 7 weeks before I hit pureed stage!!!

I'm hoping somehow my surgeon takes mercy on me and they let me advance after the 27, but more so that I can actually handle purees by then. Right now, it's looking slim, but sigh, August looks like it will be a good month ;)

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
