Near And Yet So Far, Then I Chickened Out And Decided No Surgery.

Recommended Posts

Adele, there is no right or wrong answer, you must do what you feel is right for yourself. Reading your story a few of the obsticals were put there because of your hesitation. Your initial instinct was to go with the center of excellence, I think that was the right decisio. The first time, but your timing may have just been off. As far as being denied, I feel you on that one sister. I was also denied and had to redo my 6month supervised diet again. It is discouraging, but if this is truly something you feel strongly about it will not deter you. I hope you find the guidance you need and I hope it comes from within, as this is your journey and only you can make this decision. Best of luck.

My advice is to go through all the necessary steps and make your surgery date in January. Between now and January get on Nutri-system. Honestly Nutri-system worked for me. The only reason it stopped working is because I stopped working and I couldn't afford it anymore. My stomach got smaller just with me training it to do so. It may sound dumb but the sleeve was a cheaper and easier option. Now maintaining the weight is going to be much harder for u but it can be done. I've watched my mother maintain a 100 pound weight loss for years.

The reason I give you this advice is because I truly believe in signs.

Adele, I'm also struggling to decide if I'm going to go through with the surgery too. Back in 2008, I decided to get the lap-band and chickened out, but the nutritionist's suggestions led me to achieve a 111 pound weightloss ON MY OWN. Sadly, I had gained it all back by 2011, so I'm knocking on the WLS door again. Just like last time, I'll complete all the requirements and pray that I'll have a revelation again, or I'll actually have surgery this time. I'm also a nurse, and I'm amazed at how it's so difficult for us to make a decision that will ultimately save our lives. I pray that you find peace in whatever you decide. God Bless you.

I suggest going through with the appeal. Writing a letter is the easy part. If you wait yet again, the credit you're getting for taking the nutrition classes and psych will expire & you'll be at square one again. It's worth the trouble if it will significantly affect your health in a good way!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
